We decided to go on a bike ride while on our holiday, and there is no better way than to go on the Ecopista. This is miles and miles of smooth tarmac and concrete track with exceptional views. This is very safe and as we had 2 young children it was perfect. The views along the track are beautiful.

We hired our bikes from Celobike. The guy there spoke very good English and couldn't have been anymore helpful. He even took us to the Ecopista which is just around the corner.

This is a must if in the area.

We started in Amarante where the line climbs pretty much the whole way to Gatao station. While still a lovely walk to Gatao, most of the trail is through deep cuttings & trees so the view is restricted. It's only after Gatao that the view becomes stunning. During our walk (which admittedly was on a week day) it was not crowded at all & we only met a few other users, mostly on foot. Overall highly recommended! Tip: If you don't want to do the whole length, drive to Gatao station & park there & walk northeast along the line to the end as this is without doubt the most picturesque part.

My wife and I rented bikes in Celorico de Basto (at Celobike) and made a return trip to Arco de Baulhe. Its 17 km each way with beautiful views of the river Tamega, green wine vineyards and perfectly kept homesteads. The ups are relatively easy and the downs a lot of fun. It took us about 5 hours as we made many photo stops, bathroom stops and a coffee stop along the way. Here are 2 photos of the bike rental.

We started out from Amarante and the first 3ks are nothing special, but pick a nice day and cycle along the path - you will not be disappointed. The station of Gatao is particularly beautiful.

We thoroughly enjoyed this ecopista route from Celorico de Basto to Amarante (46 km return) Rented bikes from Andre at Celobike in CdB, and Andre speaks excellent English.
At the end of the route in Amarante we parked and locked our bikes and walked into the beautiful old centre of Amarante and spent a good 2 hours sightseeing and having lunch right opposite of the cathedral. Easy bike ride with few short but not steep climbs.
Definitely recommendable.
