While the 'factory' is a large shop with 2-3 floors where the weavers are right at the bottom working away (there were 3 people on the day we visited), the items they make are amazing. All kinds of baskets, wicker furniture, dividers, mirror frames... as it is handmade, the price is corresponding but it's not hugely expensive. The most interesting fact is that the furniture is completely sustainable and environment friendly - more shops / retailers need to distribute these!

We drove there and spent longer looking for parking than time in the "factory". The factory is two cement rooms with a bunch of baskets. No order- looked more like a garage sale event. Not worth it. This seems like it was a shop that may have belonged in a different era. It was sad and sparse.

Stopped here on a coach trip and sounded very interesting but it was a warehouse of three floors of mainly different sizes of baskets and one floor of large items. One man sitting in a corner weaving. Not worth the 45 minutes allotted to see round it.

Part of the East tour seems all coaches stop. Not a lot of point as most tourists wouldn’t get goods on a plane. Only needed a quick stop. Says factory briefly see one person weaving wasn’t worth the stop seems all these tours have to find a “local “ industry to stop at. Wouldn’t go out of the way to recommend

We travel independently on the island and have done so for many years. This is the first time we have been accosted by some body for money. He followed us back and tried to force his way into the vehicle. We have used the term beggar but he was well dressed, clean and fed. Did appear to be under the influence. Have told our owner relations at Pestana but doubt this will be reported. Please take care.
