If you passing on the old road - by the school or just after - there are 2 roads that will take you down to this clasic old lighthouse that is still in use till today..great spot to 'chill' for a few moments with the family as it is nested quite high up on a steep cliff. What I like more, is the old 'slab stone' t-house & the infectious warmth it projects. You have to try the hot chocolate. Why? Well, at first it looks like a normal hot chocolate, but you are going to need a spoon to eat it. It is so rich, thick n creamy that some will order seconds. I did. The decor is stunningly floral, super clean and has a great menus of treats. The staff all women, very attentive, speak good English and love what they do, as it clearly shows. This is truely a spot not to miss as the memories of the infamous hot chocolate will linger on for many, many more years to come amongst family n friends. Please tick off if this has been of any help!

Not only is the view from up there simply breath-taking, with the blue water contrasting with the blue sky and the high rocky walls and its barren vegetation, but the lighthouse itself is deeply connected with Switzerland - to understand why, one must go and see!

Park in the village and walk to the viewpoint. Then take the old track to the lighthouse. Visit on a Wednesday and you will get the full tour. Monday’s are cleaning days, but the keeper is more than happy to chat to you. Little museum inside with the history of all the lighthouses.

Nice and quiet place at the western-most tip of Madeira which, as all places around the island, offer stunning views and there are also a couple of hikes in the vicinity.
There is also a small museum on the ground floor, free of charge, exhibiting documents and items related to the development of the lighthouse system around Madeira. Interesting to take a look, although the info is mostly given in Portuguese. You have to be careful when walking on the paths close to the edge of the cliff because it is dusty and slippery. A big, free parking is just next to the lighthouse.
Worth a visit if you are in the area.

We were taken to the lighthouse as part of a jeep tour of the south west of the island. We couldn't get into the lighthouse itself, but the views of the cliffs and sea were stunning.

There isn't a lot to do once you arrive at Ponta do Pargo lighthouse and, for some, the building itself may not live up to expectations as it is mainly 'light', but not much 'house'.

That said the views are lovely, although it would be windy on some days, and you can scramble onto the promontory at the front of the lighthouse and take some good coastal photos.

Whilst there, don't miss the opportunity to actually stop off in the village proper of Ponta do Pargo, which has a charming church and a stunning romanesque style modern town square - another stunning photo opportunity.

This view point is amazing. You drive down off the main road very easily accessed. Plenty of a layby to park up.

There is a wall which overlooks the east coast and then you can walk to a dirt track and look towards the west. When you go on the dirt track section you need to be careful it has a steep incline and loose rocks its the top of the cliff face you can get right to the edge and look over. It isn't somewhere you don't want to be paying attention. Enjoy the incredible views. My tip would be bring a few sandwiches and cool drinks it be a great spot to enjoy an hour of the views and some lunch.

Don't try and access by public transport higher a car. The island is so easily accessed by car the roads are in great shape.
