Although it took a little figuring out where to meet up for our kayak trip this was an excellent half day activity for two adults and two kids, safe but entertaining well organised and well hosted by the two young Belgian guides

Very nice people. And really nice descent of the Mondengo river. The only weak point is that an excursion that takes 3-4h, at the end takes 7h. Many time waiting before and after the trip. There is a stop 1/2 before finishing that takes 1h.

Our family of four really enjoyed our kayak trip down the Mondego. We felt safe, and it was pretty easygoing floating downriver with the current! May is a great time to go as our group of five kayaks were the only boats on the river. We hear it can be extremely busy on the river in the summer and on weekends, so it sounds like shoulder season on weekdays is the best option. Our guide was really personable and competent. Thanks for a great day!

A well organised trip with guidance for the rapids, through the beautiful valley with red kites wheeling overhead and heron on the banks.

Hi everyone,I had a very nice experience with the O Pioneiro's team. The owne rof the company speaks English very well and he gave us some tips about what to visit around Coimbra. The ride in the kayak is very relaxing as the river is calm. I would suggest it for families and people without any experience in canoeing. Midway there is a bar with some food and beer.

Utterly fantastic day out messing about on, and in the river. Friendly and helpful staff backed up by enthralling and beautiful sights, sounds and smells of the gently ambling Mondego river. Just a tip if using gps to find the Penacova site; our satnav took us down a very tight lane with no access to the river, make sure you stick with the road until you see the "canoeagem" orange sign, and turn RIGHT onto the dirt track along the river after the tar runs out. Cannot recommend highly enough.

An amazing day on the river. The staff kindly guided us through all potential rough parts of the river, and we felt safe during the entire 18km paddle. We were there on a Saturday, and the river were for parts of the trip packed with kayaks from different companies. It could be a good idea to go on a weekday for less crowds, and please remember to bring lunch and snacks to enjoy along the riverbanks. A recommended experience!
