This museum and the associated ruins are definitely worth a stop. My understanding (supported by our experiences) was that the Camino from Lisbon to Santiago follows Roman military roadways, so it is not surprising that Roman artifacts are to be found. The cafe in the...More

Three are several different threads for Tripadvisor reviews of this place. It is highly confusing. I chose the one with the largest number and most recent reviews. I read about the ruins when I was planning for our trip to Portugal. I was so intrigued...More

We always hear about Pompei and other Italian-based ruins, but nothing about Roman ruins elsewhere such as Tunisia (a well-preserved Colossuem) or Portugal. What a shame, because I found walking around here much more interesting than Pompei. It may not have the extent of buildings,...More

We thoroughly enjoyed spending several leisurely hours visiting the extensive Roman ruins at Conimbriga and the adjoining museum. If anything, we could have allowed even more time for our visit. We walked around the ruins first and then visited the museum. That sequence gave us...More

On our trip, we visited Roman ruins in four countries and this site is both unique and has an interesting history. The site is only 17% excavated according to the knowledgeable gentleman at the ticket desk. We were very impressed by the museum. In comparison...More

Interesting museum that doesn’t take long to view. That’s ok after spending a couple of hours walking the ruins!

Definitely a place to visit if you are travelling near Coimbra. Portugal. Amazingly well preserved Roman ruins. We spent over 3 hours in very hot weather but would not have missed it.

Conimbriga was an important city in the first to the fourth centuries AD (or whatever they call it these days). The ruins have been extensively reviewed over the years but I have included it because I recommend you also take in a visit to the...More

We stopped to see these extensive Roman ruins while in the area, and I would suggest allowing at least 2 hours to really explore the area and museum......the latter contains objects that were found during the excavation as well as historical information regarding the ruins...More

An interesting museum-cum-interpretation centre and a large open area covered with well preserved roman ruins. The mosaics are spectacular, and very well preserved. Take water with you, and wear a hat. There's very little shade. Worth a visit.
