Casmilo holes are a cave near the village of Casmilo, near Rabaçal. True natural monument in a little touristically explored area, well yet, because otherwise it would not have the charm it has. They are natural holes in the limestone rock of the Sierra de Sicó. You can walk from the village of Casmilo there, about two kilometers or by vehicle all terrain. It is worth knowing these charming corners of our Portugal.

In the region (about 10 km of Coimbra) we have Condeixa-a-Nova, Pombal and Alvaiázere, where we can find a formation of “Solid Limestone”.
We have to drive to the small rural village called “Casmilo” from where we will follow the signposted trail to the “Buracas do Casmilo”.
Those are a natural formation of geological wholes, this is not a massive tourist place but worth wile to spend a visit.
It is a very attractive place for people who like to have a nice trail walk in the complete nature, and beside also very interesting for people like outdoor sports like rock climbing etc.
You can take your picnic and enjoy a nice sunny day.
This visit can be included in a tour who will lead you from Coimbra, over to the Penela Castle and the Ruins of Conimbriga, all this together will give you an unforgettable vacation.
To get to the location from Coimbra:
Leave Coimbra by the “IC2” in the direction of Condeixa-a-Nova, than you will see the sign for “Arrifana” (straight road uphill) than follow the sign for Casmilo and the “Wooden Signs” for “Buracas do Casmilo”.
Once arrived into Casmilo, you have to turn right and follow the dirt road, with a normal car drive very slow, and in the meantime enjoy the magnificent environment.

Very green surroundings. Our kids loved to climb the rocks, look at the goats, Who were passing by. When you enter the village, you think you are at the end of the World.

If you drive south from Condeixa-a-Nova and into the village of Polidesportivo de Casmilo you will find signs directing you to Buracas do Casmilo.. Just outside Polidesportivo you will come across a car park and picnic tables area. You can park your car there and then walk the 2 Km to the caves at Buracas do Casmilo. It is possible to drive all the way along a rough road, but that is only for the extremely lazy. It's far better to enjoy the scenery and fresh air and walk the short distance.

This attraction consists of a set of 8 - 10 caves and mountain "holes" that Nature graciously left for us :-). It is a beautiful scenery and very amusing to walk and discover in family or as a couple. I took my family, with 2 young kids, and they simply loved it. We had a picnic in the mountain, in a late afternoon with a marvelous sunset, and it was close to a "small dream". I strongly recommend it if you are visiting Condeixa-a-Nova. Enjoy :-)

Enchanting landscapes, stunning vistas & awesome geology; shared with just a few shepherds, goats & sheep. A really quite special place on Planet Earth.

Buracas do Casmilo is a narrow gorge near the village of Casmilo, formed thousands years ago by the colapse of several dolinas. The extremities of the dolinas puntuate the walls of the gorge, transforming them in skull-like eye cavities.

For those who like natural beauty, you can always visit. The car can get there, you just have to walk about a kilometer on a gravel road.

Despite the photos circulating on social media, being present at the location is undoubtedly superior to this advertising. Congratulations to the municipality that keeps the accesses in excellent condition.
