The museum in Condeixa houses an interesting collection of Roman artefacts. I was on a guided tour and the guide swept us all along with her enthusiasm and knowledge of the exhibits. I was particularly impressed by the roman era water pitcher and the huge olive vat. The museum is not large but it is well appointed. The museum cafe is currently run by a Manager who previously worked in a five star hotel, so it is very different to most cafes in Portugal. The sweets menu included spinach cake which is certainly unusual. Definitely worth a visit.

The Po.RO.S museum is a neat stop before visiting the ruins of Conimbriga. It shows how the city was laid out and how some of the structures were built. I've been to many Roman sites throughout the world but this little museum does an excellent job of explaining it all on the construction methods used. There are plenty of hands on, interactive portions that make it a great trip out for not just kids but adults as well. For a small little museum it is a little short of artifacts but makes up for it with the activities you can do.

We were not sure what to expect with this “new style” of museum exhibit.
But it was fun, and if you want to get children excited about Roman history or just museums, this is the place.
Expect to spend at least 90 min here before heading to Conimbraga.
Try the cafe at the end of your tour, very pleasant.
A whole new way to captivating people.
The layout is a bit odd, two floors starting upstairs.

We visited this place September 27th. Free parking is available next to the building. The staff told us that the audio guides were not working properly. Although most of the information boards were in Portuguese and English, it was not possible to understand the films in Portuguese without the audio guides.
There are some rooms with interactive displays.

A great place to visit where you can learn more about the history of the Roman people and their way of life. It's a very interactive museum that uses technology to teach history and to show us how roman inventions still influence us nowadays.

This is by far THE BEST museum I have visited in Portugal. Even if you are not into history, you cannot but enjoy this museum and learn from it.
It is a modern interactive museum, with technologies to keep you entertained, as well as Roman replicas that your can touch and feel.
Well worth a visit. Not to be missed.

This is a new museum dedicated to the region's Roman history. It's probably best appreciated if you tie in a visit to nearby Conimbriga either before or after. Conimbriga is the real thing but what this museum does (and does very well) is to put CGI animation onto the ruins so that you can see what Roman life was like. It also superimposes parallels of Roma with modern life. All in all, well worth a visit and there's enough to keep the kids from getting bored.
There is also a nice cafe on site and most of the exhibits are subtitled in English as well as Portuguese.

We visited this museum the day after we had visited the Roman ruins. Please do it the other way around! The museum is interactive, very good English translation. It's a fabulous museum! We went in the morning, and we were the only visitors. It brings the Roman town to life. Lots of activities and exhibits.

Very recent but largely worth the visit, this museum is an excellent new attraction to a city, Condeixa, that is widely renewed itself in the last years. The museum building is well built and quite nice to visit inside and outside. But the main interest comes from the nice concept of the museum, mostly based on interactive experiences to learn the lives and history of the roman civilisation. It is focused on the roman occupation of the area ("Terras de Sicó", defined as the regions around Conimbriga, Tomar and Leiria) but the information provided goes well beyond this, giving us about a more general overview of the roman world. The interactiveness of the museum is the most interesting part of it, allowing the visitor to experience details that otherwise would go unnoticed. Well worth the visit, even if you are staying in relatively faraway cities as Coimbra or Tomar. And very nice for kids, although they should have more than eight or nine to really appreciate the wealth of information the museum has to offer. Final bonus: the price, very small for such a quality museum.

I received the suggestion from our hotel owner to visit this Museum, and I was really impressed , because the museum uses all new available technologies (videos also in 3D, lights, ...) to perform an interactive view about Roman Empire .
it was a great surprise and if someone is in Conimbriga region, it's a very good choice.
