    Stunning views
We drove to the bottom of the church. There is free parking available right there (put googlemaps into satilite view to see where you can park). Read other reviews saying they didn’t climb the stairs. Although it looks like a lot of stairs, it’s very manageable and so worth it. They are small steps that are easy to climb. The tiles are beautiful and the views spectacular.

Miradouro and historic church all thrown into one.
Enjoyed the visit to this tiny chapel with an interesting back story. The steps look daunting on first inspection, but they are easy to climb being quite shallow and close together, and this you should do as you are then afforded truly spectacular views of the Islet of Vila Franco do Campo and the surrounding countryside. The story of the vision that led to the building of this chapel is explained on tiles at the top of the steps and each level is decorated with beautiful Portuguese blue tiling. There is also the advantage of toilets at the top level, cunningly hidden out the way in a lower building to the left-hand side. As others have said there is plenty of parking here for the number of people this chapel attracts, just be careful not to run over any of the cats that call this attraction home. A large ginger one was adding to the belief that ginger cats are trouble by laying in the middle of the road and refusing to move when we arrived.

Beautiful chapel with incredible views! Didn’t stop for long but you don’t need to- half an hour is good to soak up the views, take some pictures and wander up the stairs and round the chapel. Thoroughly recommend a visit to this stunning site!

Beautiful local church well worth stopping. Going up the stair (100 steps) celebrate the life of Christ. The inside is beautiful. The views of La Fraca Do Campo and the ocean are fantastic.

The Sanctuary of Our Lady of Peace stands proudly overlooking the beautiful Vila Franca do Campo, once the capital of the magnificent island of São Miguel.
The current temple dates from the eighteenth century, and will have been built on a previous one probably dating from the sixteenth century, erected by the population in honor of the Virgin.
A temple of great beauty, it is one of the most famous monuments of the region, even for the great landscape that can be seen here, constituting this Mount of Our Lady of Peace one of the most privileged viewpoints of the Village and the surrounding landscape.

From the parking lot, you get this amazing view of the city of Villa Franca do Campo. From the top of the stairs to the church, you get an even more amazing view. The sea looks endless!

The walk to the top isn't hard and can be done leisurely, as the steps are paved. The church is surrounded by fields of green and so many flowers.

The church is a working church, so there are bathrooms available at the top as well.

Lots of stairs, but view from top is breathtaking. A must if in Vila Franco. Church was not open when we were there.

A little hard to find. If in doubt keep driving uphill! Stunning views of Vila Franca do Campo (the former capital of Sao Miguel) and the surrounding fruit plantations (pineapple, banana and orchards). It is a peaceful place and it certainly lives up to its name.

Great collection of hydrangeas here too.

Worth a visit on the way to Furnas from Ponta Delgada.

I had seen pictures of this church and really wanted to visit it. Our tour guide accommodated us (it wasn’t on a prescribed route). I hadn’t realized that it was a bit off of the normal path, but it does get its share of visitors. It is a small but beautiful chapel. The church’s most attractive features are the stairs going up. There are 10 each representing the 5 Joyful and the 5 sorrowful mysteries of the rosary. And then, the view from the chapel is a wow! We were very thankful that our guide was so helpful.

Amazing views from here once you have paid your respects at the church. If you like cats buy a bag of treats and take them up here with you as there are a bunch of poor skinny moggys that will appreciate it.

We took a bus from Ponta Delgada to Villa Franca to visit Sr. Da Paz. Once we got there, I wanted to take a taxi to the top but my husband said "let's walk!" My daughter and I looked at each other... said a prayer, and off we went.

We three are not in the most physical of shape, but it was an amazing pilgrimage to the top. My daughter joked the whole way about Jesus waiting for us at the top, as we were dying with each turn and level of incline!!!

We stopped several times to catch our breath and rest our backs (we were carrying backpacks with water and snacks). The views along the way were amazing. It took us little over an hour to walk/climb/crawl/push each other up the road, but we did it and were all the better for it!

The walk down, was just as amazing!!! it took only 30 mins to come back down! Look at every flower and every tree you can.

If you can walk up Rua da Paz, I suggest you do it! It will change your life!!

Enjoy!
