Many people on the path and we were there end of season. I can imagine a much more crowded walk during busier times. In those times you would have to wait to get into better view areas.

While the park and natural beauty are great, there are a significant amount of visitors, which takes away from the whole experience. At one point on a trail we stood in line for an hour, only to realize that the reason the path was blocked was do to people blocking the trail taking pictures and selfies. I would be more than willing to pay the $40 pp entrance fee, but the whole trail experience felt as though you were either in a race to finish or you waited an hour for a ferry, waiting for others to take pictures or a transit bus. The park management does not monitor crowds nor provide adequate logistic support to make the park experience enjoyable. I would only recommend a visit in the off season.

This was the best experience we had on a tour that included Zagreb, Plitvice Lakes, Split, Hvar, and Dubrovnik. The "catch" is that it is an outdoors experience involving hiking and physical activity, where the further you are able to hike, the more you benefit.

We went in April 2019, which is the low season. We did not encounter overwhelming crowds and did not have to deal with particularly hot weather.

There are multiple hiking trails that allow you to tailor the duration of the hike, in a range of ~2 hours to 8-10 hours. The actual terrain is not difficult to traverse as the park has very well kept walking paths in place. We saw groups of elderly comfortably managing the walk. Some of the hikes require you to use a bus or ferry to complete the hike.

Many of the hotels result in your entering the park at Entrance 2. However, if you are not able to walk prolonged distances, we would recommend entering at Entrance 1 in order to see the "Big Waterfall (Veliki Slap)" which absolutely should be not be missed (it is possible to see/photograph this waterfall without hiking).

Bottom line, this is an amazing attraction that alone makes the trip to Croatia worth it.

We went to the park not really knowing what to expect. But soon after entering we looked down from the observation point and saw many cascades which were incredibly beautiful. Then we leasurely walked around the park for abou 4 hours. We could have spent more time here but there was an older couple with us. I would strongly recommend anyone going to Croatia to definitely find time to visit this beautiful park with many many cascades and water falls.

Magnificent. Just magnificent. Starting at the lower lakes and moving upward, it just kept getting better and better until finally arriving at the Upper Lakes. I’m glad we went in the order we did. The experience just kept building until we reached the pinnacle of the tour. Just gorgeous.
Highly Recommended.

When you walk here, you will definitely see a difference with the lower lakes. We started in entrance 1 (lower lakes) and walked upstream. The lower lakes look to be bigger and calmer, while the upper lakes look to be smaller and more wild. Have a look there yourself!

we were there for a whole day and we really enjoy! Water, trees, animals, ... but a lot of people. That is why it is worth to go to the upper lakes, where there are less people and you can also enjoy peace and silence.

The place is really amazing, better than expected. You can walk around as much as you want. The path are clearly marked and I think it takes even less than what they say on the brochure. The only downside is that if it’s crowded you end up walking slowly in a line. If you decide to take your dog, be aware that the wooden footpath is very irregular and not really comfortable for them.

The whole of Plitvice Lakes National Park should be visited for it is immeasurably beautiful. Simply breathtaking. Take your time, your camera, wear good walking shoes and enjoy.
