I was in town for the day and it was raining so I decided to check this museum and see what it offered. I have been coming to Laviro for over 40 years and just noticed it. It was smaller but very interesting. Note the cost is 2EU.

We were exploring this area as we were particularly interested in finding out about the Ancient Silver Mining Industry. This museum makes a great start for an exploration. They have a good (if slightly dated) display on the processes used. They also have a good collection of artefacts - don't miss the grinders that are in the courtyard outside. They also had a map of locations to sites in the hills which you can visit - no leaflet, we photographed it!
Another bonus was they have sections of the Sunion Frieze.

I thought this visit was excellent. All of the displays were clearly labeled in English and Greek, and all the cases were clean. There were lots of interesting exhibits and it was easy to navigate. Overall a great visit!

So much history in such a small museum. From prehistoric ages to Roman era. See the clay goddesses and artifacts that still can be used as contemporary art. Unbelievable.

The door to the museum was open and there were people at the reception desk. We entered the museum and asked to purchase tickets. We were told that the museum was closed even though it was around 11:00 am. We asked, since everybody was there, anyway, and we had travelled a long way to get there, if we could take a quick look around what seemed to be a small one-room exhibit. We were told we could not.

It is a pity that so many wonderful historical and artistic pieces are showcased in a dismal environment with unmotivated and ignorant staff. Worth passing by if you are interested in ancient history, but do your own reading beforehand. Pity.
