The island was on my bucket list for sometime. And we finally had the chance to visit.
Hired a car from our resort and headed up to the ferry. We were then transported to the beach by a Land Rover for just €20 each (return)
He strongly advises “plenty agua”
We arrange a pick up time and head off down to the beach
Wow !!!!!
Truly stunning, gorgeous, fantastic and any other superlative. Just “gob smacking “

One of the main beaches on the island, about 7km away from Caleta de Sebo where the ferry docks.
It can be reached by renting a bike or taking part in tours. Personally I chose the bike, so it was a great undertaking especially on the way back since the road is uphill and completely unpaved.
The beach remains completely raw, without human intervention (other than the initial fence and the red flag) and about half a kilometer long. The sand is fine and clear (mixed with shell fragments), the water is crystal blue and it is the windiest beach of all.
The waves can also be high, so you need to be careful when swimming.

A visit to the Playa de las Conchas (seashells) is a must, when on Graciosa. Located in the northwest of the island it can be reached over a sandy road by taxi, by bicycle or on foot. The approach is rather dull, since it is flat and straight, bypassing the island's highest peak Aguja Grande (266m). Work was going on at the main road, when we were there, so for the first part one can use an almost parallel track to the right of it.
Our choice though had been to include the beach in a walk around the whole northern part of Graciosa. Thus from the port at Caleta del Sebo we walked mainly along the coast to the village of Pedro Barba, then on to Playa de la Lambra (also known as Playa Ambar), turning around the red Montaña Bermeja, until finally reaching the Playa de las Conchas.
With fine golden sand the about 400m long beach was deserted, when we got there. A red flag was flying and there was an information board, where it said that this a dangerous beach. On another board the story is told how a French father and his 11 year old daughter lost their life here on Dec 26th, 2013, when a rogue wave caught them, while they were just standing at the beach.
Best to sit a bit away of it in the dunes, where there is some sparse halophyte vegetation like sea spurge or traganum. It would be a good picnic spot, when there is no wind blowing sand in one's face. Well visible out in the sea is the rocky islet of Montaña Clara.

So the beach itself is very pretty indeed. Pure sand and aqua blue sea, makes for a fantastic social media friendly picture. However it's not a beach you could swim at (dangerous crashing waves and strong looking rip) and getting there is just not worth it as the island itself is a bleak, desolate place with no flora or fauna to speak of, just barren desert and neither picturesque nor unique (there's better scenery on the drive to Orzola on the mainland!). Not worth the effort to get to in my humble opinion.

Leisurely stroll across this beautiful island takes about an hour and a half. Well worth it for this pristine, clean-sand beach with gorgeous views out to the northern islets. Turquoise water, no facilities - perfect. Only about 20 other people there on this sunny November Sunday. Take note of the warning notices about deaths in the waves before swimming!

Very beautiful beach but I have a few notes to make:
The red flag is barely visible, as is the monument to the fallen on that beach which should be placed at the entrance to the beach and not at the exit.
Waves that are too strong, you risk drowning.
Furthermore, the life jacket is tied to a rope that is too short to actually save a life, not to mention the help that was not at all timely. I won't go back

Spectacular beach view, bathing with great respect, as if it were a red flag, up to your ankles, nothing more. The waves are very surprising from time to time and a wave comes from your ankles and reaches your knees easily. I knelt down to wet my chest. Be careful with the small children's bathroom, permanent surveillance. Climbing the vermilion mountain is recommended.

This was by far my favourite of the beaches on the island with its rocky shoreline dotted with crabs and seabirds. There are plenty of rocks to sit on and I sat on one of them for literally hours gazing out to sea and just listening to the waves. The currents can be pretty strong here wit rip tides so its not recommended for swimming, but plenty of people do so regardless.

Playa las conchas is so beautiful to look at but perhaps less enjoyable to be at, if the weather is not in your favour. We took the ferry over from lanzarote at 8.30 and got a quick taxi over to the beach so we had the full day. We were the first ones there, so it was unbelievable to see completely untouched sands. The beach is seemingly pristine with no micro-plastics (seeing a sand as perfect as this makes you realise how used we are to littered beaches), and the shallows of the sea were gorgeous and jewel toned. However, on the day we went the winds were very high, and it seems there was no cover. The wind can whip the sand at you and hurt your skin. We walked the length of the beach and instead climbed the volcano next to it (precarious in the wind also!), whilst waiting for the winds to subside, but they didn’t. Later, we found a bit of shelter by the rocks to the left of the beach, but even so it was not possible to relax and read there. You could tell there was something off about the waves: I’d never seen crash in such an un-uniform way- they seemed to spiral? It certainly looks ominous and you wouldn’t want to swim on it, no matter how clear and beautiful it looked. We left early because it was so hard to enjoy ourselves with the wind… at the top of the beach we saw the sign Dangerous Beach and a plaque about a father and daughter who were swept out to see just from standing on the beach….. I’d advise anyone visiting to take heed of this, particularly in high winds which must have only exacerbated the danger. In conclusion: Beautiful, but not for a full day out

Beautiful beach, without a doubt the best of the graceful one. If you plan to go by bike, I warn you that you have to be quite fit and used to the bicycle, if not, it is better to go by taxi, especially on a hot day. There is nothing around there, so if you plan to spend the day you better bring enough water and food. Be careful with the sea, which is usually quite rough…

Hello! I have read that in autumn 2021, the road to the beach was closed. Is it now open again? Thanks :)

Salve, vorrei sapere se a La Graciosa è possibile noleggiare una jeep in autonomia o fan solo servizio taxi? Grazie a chi risponderà
Written February 19, 2020

Cordialement.

You can buy your tickets in the pier from which the ferry departs. The name of the town in which it is located is Órzola, at 45 min from the airport. If you want to buy the tickets in advance, then search in google lineasromero la graciosa

Written May 15, 2016
