A visit to the Playa de las Conchas (seashells) is a must, when on Graciosa. Located in the northwest of the island it can be reached over a sandy road by taxi, by bicycle or on foot. The approach is rather dull, since it is flat and straight, bypassing the island's highest peak Aguja Grande (266m). Work was going on at the main road, when we were there, so for the first part one can use an almost parallel track to the right of it.
Our choice though had been to include the beach in a walk around the whole northern part of Graciosa. Thus from the port at Caleta del Sebo we walked mainly along the coast to the village of Pedro Barba, then on to Playa de la Lambra (also known as Playa Ambar), turning around the red Montaña Bermeja, until finally reaching the Playa de las Conchas.
With fine golden sand the about 400m long beach was deserted, when we got there. A red flag was flying and there was an information board, where it said that this a dangerous beach. On another board the story is told how a French father and his 11 year old daughter lost their life here on Dec 26th, 2013, when a rogue wave caught them, while they were just standing at the beach.
Best to sit a bit away of it in the dunes, where there is some sparse halophyte vegetation like sea spurge or traganum. It would be a good picnic spot, when there is no wind blowing sand in one's face. Well visible out in the sea is the rocky islet of Montaña Clara.

Leisurely stroll across this beautiful island takes about an hour and a half. Well worth it for this pristine, clean-sand beach with gorgeous views out to the northern islets. Turquoise water, no facilities - perfect. Only about 20 other people there on this sunny November Sunday. Take note of the warning notices about deaths in the waves before swimming!

Playa las conchas is so beautiful to look at but perhaps less enjoyable to be at, if the weather is not in your favour. We took the ferry over from lanzarote at 8.30 and got a quick taxi over to the beach so we had the full day. We were the first ones there, so it was unbelievable to see completely untouched sands. The beach is seemingly pristine with no micro-plastics (seeing a sand as perfect as this makes you realise how used we are to littered beaches), and the shallows of the sea were gorgeous and jewel toned. However, on the day we went the winds were very high, and it seems there was no cover. The wind can whip the sand at you and hurt your skin. We walked the length of the beach and instead climbed the volcano next to it (precarious in the wind also!), whilst waiting for the winds to subside, but they didn’t. Later, we found a bit of shelter by the rocks to the left of the beach, but even so it was not possible to relax and read there. You could tell there was something off about the waves: I’d never seen crash in such an un-uniform way- they seemed to spiral? It certainly looks ominous and you wouldn’t want to swim on it, no matter how clear and beautiful it looked. We left early because it was so hard to enjoy ourselves with the wind… at the top of the beach we saw the sign Dangerous Beach and a plaque about a father and daughter who were swept out to see just from standing on the beach….. I’d advise anyone visiting to take heed of this, particularly in high winds which must have only exacerbated the danger. In conclusion: Beautiful, but not for a full day out

So the beach itself is very pretty indeed. Pure sand and aqua blue sea, makes for a fantastic social media friendly picture. However it's not a beach you could swim at (dangerous crashing waves and strong looking rip) and getting there is just not worth it as the island itself is a bleak, desolate place with no flora or fauna to speak of, just barren desert and neither picturesque nor unique (there's better scenery on the drive to Orzola on the mainland!). Not worth the effort to get to in my humble opinion.

Playa de las Conchas is the most wonderful place in La Graciosa Island, a small island near the North of Lanzarote. i came here to do a one day excursion by bike and I go firstly to this beach. Really fantastic! It is a sand beach, from where you can see amazing views of the three uninhabited islands located near here. Also, you can see some colours of the sand and stones due to volcano rocks. So, you can see yellow, red, brown or black, and also it is possible to see Montaña Bermeja (Red Mountain). Top in the island! Lovely place to bath, sunbath, relax or play with children, while enjoy with wonderful views.

On 30/12/15 we went to the Island of La Graciosa with the eventual aim of a day at Playa Las Conchas. 2 x Families with girls of 13 and 11. It wasn't that windy at all and the scene at the beach is totally idyllic. Beware though as the waves are very violent with massive RIP CURRENTS and it is NOT safe swimming (red flag beach) AT ALL - that is coming from a 2-time English Channel swimmer who went in. The only people brave enough to handle it were a couple of experienced body boarders. Do NOT make the same mistake and go all this way NOT to swim with your family - go to Playa La Cocina, Playa Francesca or Playa Del Salado which are all green flag and safe. Also get to the island as early as you can otherwise all the bikes (10 euro per day) will already have been hired and you are at the mercy of the cabs or your own feet! Beautiful island but don't make the same mistake as a 47 year old man and an 11 year old child recently who LOST THEIR LIVES at this very spot.

Playa de la Conchas really is a paradise. It looks unreal, the sand is soft and the sea has so many colours. You absolutely need to go, walking or cycling, but you must go

This is a gorgeous beach, well worth the one hour walk from the little town of Caleta de Sebo on the other side. It never seems to get crowded, it could take thousands of people but it seems to never have more than 10 or 20 or even less some days I went there. One word of warning, don't swim unless you are a good swimmer as people have died here before swimming, freak waves apparently took paddles off the beach. There are no lifeguards and help would be a long way away.

This beach is really as it looks in the pictures, and you can visit and be pretty much on your own there, having lots of space around you. If you want a beach chair, drinks, bathrooms, food and people crammed next to you on a loud beach then avoid this place. This has nothing but beach, no shade or restaurants. So that means you do need to bring everything you would like, including shade and water. The trek over can be done on a rental bike, but be warned it is a bumpy ride. You can also get a lift over as well, most people bike or walk it seems. Be warned the hill leaving town is longer and higher the it looks so riding out of town you may tire quickly. Keeping a good pace shouldn't take too long to get there. Absolutely great beach with so few people. It does of course require that you take the ferry over to La Graciosa so most people will just stay at their resort and never experience the island or beach. The day we were there, the waves did seem to break quite hard on the beach so it could be difficult for swimming, and not good for small children. There seemed to be plenty of hiking around the area as well if you are up for a walk. For us, it was a highlight and absolutely great day at the beach. Just make sure you leave plenty of time to make the ferry back.

Hello! I have read that in autumn 2021, the road to the beach was closed. Is it now open again? Thanks :)

Salve, vorrei sapere se a La Graciosa è possibile noleggiare una jeep in autonomia o fan solo servizio taxi? Grazie a chi risponderà

You can buy your tickets in the pier from which the ferry departs. The name of the town in which it is located is Órzola, at 45 min from the airport. If you want to buy the tickets in advance, then search in google lineasromero la graciosa
