We spent ten nights at the KN Arenas del Mar Hotel, from the 6th to 16th December, which is a short walk into the Town of El Médano and it's beach.

We walked in to the town on a number of occasions which took us along this beach.

Several sections of beach combine to form this beach, which stretches along the coast for 750 metres (2,460 feet) long. The beach consists of fine black volcanic sand.

It has been awarded Blue Flag for it's water quality and facilities. It is a very well maintained clean beach

Sun beds and umbrellas are available for rent along the beach from 10.00 am to 19.00. The beds were €4 each and so were the umbrellas. €12 for two beds and one umbrella, a bit pricey, soon adds up if you go every day.

There are a number if bars, cafe, restaurants and shops along Avenida Maritima which runs alongside the beach.

Showers and changing huts are long the beach.

Certain areas of the beach are popular with surfers, there is a Kite School towards the far end of the beach.

From the beach visitors can enjoy watching the surfers, with or without kites with Montaña Roja in the background.

First time to Tenerife and El Medano was recommended to us. It is a lovely little town/resort, which has retained its 'Spanishness'. There are only a couple of larger hotels and developments seem to have been sensibly restricted. This is a great place for doing nothing/very little apart from walking n the sun/getting a sun bed on the beach and eating in the many good restaurants and cafes. The exception to this is the kite and windsurfing, El Medano has the ideal conditions for these if you want to do more than just relax. These surfers also give the place a good vibe. The town seems to suit the more mature traveller and families. We went for a week looking for relaxation and to escape the building work going on in our home and El Medano was the perfect place for us to relax in the sun.

Not a lot of tourists here, it seems to be a place where many Spaniards get together on the beach with there own. I did notice on some of the more secluded beaches whilst walking around Tenerife, had hand made unofficial signs and graffiti stating 'This beach for Spaniards only', so there is obviously a strong sentiment for not wanting to mix with the foreign tourists. To be honest, who can blame them? The place is awash with foreign tourists, so having a haven of 'Espanola' can be very attractive.
The beach was small, with bars, shops, and a street market all full of people, the beach was literally standing room only. Haven't seen a beach like that in years, great to see.
More real Spain, rather than the tourist soaked beaches in Cristianos and Americas, highly recommended.

This town is off the tourist trail but easily accessed by car or the local busses. It makes a welcome alternative to the busy tourist places near by, and has retained it's Spanish identity.
The town is worth exploring but the beach is the main attraction. The winds are strong here so it is a centre for wind surfing and the standard is very high. There are bars and restaurants along the beach where you can sit and enjoy the activities. There are hire and tuition schools too if you prefer.
There are sometimes craft fairs and local markets on the town square. The town only has limited hotels, so is not over developed, and makes a nice day out. Something different.

Great location hotel clean although rooms basic. The issue with this hotel is the staff. They are awful reception aside. Restaurant had one staff member who was extremely rude. On holiday you don’t want an argument. The bar staff was one man who looked exhausted with long shifts but again just ignored you. I’ve never seen anything like it. A big hotel half full with 3 or 4 staff in total and clearly they are not happy. Nothing at night despite great facilities. Would not recommend and will never be back here. They managed to give the restaurant a cafe vibe and food average and Luke warm. Just a negative experience disappointing.

El Medano is a relatively small resort with long beaches and many watersport facilities, thanks to the Canarian winds. Enough bars, restaurants and ice-cream shops (some made on the premises) to satisfy a mixed international clientele. Easy to find a quiet spot if you wanted.
We took a bus along the coast as far as Los Cristianos and quickly decided we had made the best choice of resort!

Booked this as a last minute break and we were not disappointed. We normally do cruises and Caribbean breaks .This hotel is so friendly. The staff are some of the best we have experienced. We found the premises very clean and food quality was good though not vast in choice we always found something pleasing. Location is quite and a very short walk to local town that is still very Spanish. If you want British Bars with 2 euros a pint with karaoke this is not the place for you . Will return again for a chill out .

This little city is a well known windsurf and kitesurf spot. But it is also a friendly and family beach town. Full of boutiques and restaurants.
A very relaxing and pleasant place, at least in winter (where we stil got up to 26 degrees)

Great little beach, very discrete not over populated.
I could have spent all day there basking in the sun and listening to the sea crashing and lapping all day.
It was great for stress. Each time a wave came in and out a bit on my anxiety went with it
If near this beach give it a visit but don’t waste it for us who enjoy the tranquility of this beach
