We stayed at the Four Season Resort Koa Olina and enjoyed access to the Ko Olina lagoons daily. The pristine sand and clear water on all three lagoons are for use by Four Seasons, Disney Aulani, and Marriott resorts with the fourth one for public use. Great lagoons for safe swimming and easy snorkeling for both kids and adults. We visited in late April and it was just perfect with great sunny and warm weather every single day. Very satisfying stay at the Ko Olina area and less crowds too.

My wife and I recently vacationed at the Aulani Resort which is located next to one of the Ko'Olina lagoons. Every morning, just after sunrise, I left the resort by the beach entrance and journeyed along the paved walkway that connects the lagoons. The walk was easy and I met many friendly folks. The morning views of the area were awesome and the walks were invigorating. It was fun walking past the yoga groups and the various swimming groups. During the weekday mornings I enjoyed listening to a group of about 30 to 40 locals who formed a Ukulele band. They were there bright and early during the weekdays but not on the weekend. The band was located near the end of the walkway close to the entrance to the Ko'Olina Marina. Unfortunately I never stayed too long listening to the band so I have no idea how long they play every morning. The lagoons are beautiful and there are parking lots near the lagoons although the parking lot sizes varied. There are also public rest rooms. The area is clean and well maintained.

Visited one afternoon/evening on our trip (late March-Early April 2022). Someone recommended that we have dinner during happy hour at the nearby Monkeypod and then find a parking spot in the public lot and enjoy the lagoons while watching the sun set. Great idea! Did a little swimming in Lagoon 4, and then watched the sunset while walking the path past all the lagoons. If there is a hidden gem on Oahu, this is it.

Shallow, low/no wave man made lagoons carved out by marriott and other hotels for "safe" swimming. Perfect for small kids and ppl who don't swim. They can stand in knee deep water and wade. No fish for snorkeling. Lagoon 1 has night lights for swimming. Lagoon 2 had SUP renta and is the least crowded l (you can cross the entire thing in 10 strong paddles), Lagoon 3 is the largest and Lagoon 4 is the most protected .

We asked the local employees for a recommendation between the 4 lagoons, and they suggested 3 or 4, so we picked the 4th lagoon because we knew it wasn’t directly part of a hotel or a resort. Indeed, it wasn’t very crowded, the water was calm and clean, and (after failed snorkeling attempt at Kulima Bay) we saw lots of fish closer to the wall openings. We, then, walked to lagoon 3 and walked right back after seeing a lot more people in lagoon 3 from the hotel. It was definitely worth the 30-40 minute drive from Honolulu to spend 3-4 hours relaxing, swimming, and snorkeling (beginner) in lagoon 4. Parking at the public lot was also not an issue at around 1:00 PM.

Trying to look for free public parking, the parking area at lagoon 2 and 3 is small and there were waiting cars. We ended at the parking area for lagoon 4. This parking is easily 3-4x bigger than that of the others.
What is nice with lagoon 4 is that it is next to ko olina beach park and the marina. This makes lagoon 4 bigger, with either choosing to stay on the beach, or on the grass AND with shade provided by trees! Our group decided to stay on the grass and walked past the breakwater rocks to enjoy the sea hitting the rocks. Then walk along the beach of lagoon 4. Public wash areas are generally clean which is a plus, unlike the public toilets at kuhio beach which is not clean because of the sheer number of people. Another plus: no homeless people.

We checked out the Ko Olina lagoons last week one afternoon and saw there was a waiting line to get in the parking lots of all 4 lagoons. We decided lagoon #2 was best for snorkling, so we headed back early one morning and had no problem getting a parking place. The area is beautiful and great for families. The snorkling was ok, but not great, as I saw a few pretty fish on the rock areas.

Awful experience. Very discriminatory and against any one who might be local. Do not waste your time here. The “security” guards were blatantly evil to my son and myself. I’ve never seen a more unprofessional group of people in all of my life. I feared for my personal safety and I would never visit here again or risk the life of my child who also felt endangered. There’s no excuse for this terrible behavior and threatening experience. Do not risk yourself or the life of your child

Perfect spot to enjoy a day at the beach and the see the Sunset! Area was well up kept and safe. Beautiful views and great facilities. One of the best places in O'ahu to watch an epic sunset. Due to COVID parking was limited, I was lucky enough to find a great spot. If you are planning to go for the Sunset arrive a couple of hours earlier to beat traffic and catch a break/parking spot from the people leaving for the day. Enjoy!

We just loved these lagoons. We hired a car and drove to Lagoon 4, where there was free parking between sunrise and sunset. We then walked along all the lagoons, up to Lagoon 1 and had lunch at the Disney Resort (a very easy flat 20 min walk on a path). They are just beautiful. Even though it was winter, the water was warm and the kids swam for hours.

I highly suggest trying Paradise Cove Beach which is just down from lagoon #1. You can access the public beach path via Ali'inui Dr. Public parking is limited, but if you're walking, you're all set. Hundreds of colorful fish and highly likely you'll see a green sea turtle if you're there any length of time. Warning: they have no public restrooms.

I think you have to stay at one of the resorts to use the BBQ

"Officially" 8am to sundown. If you want a lounger with umbrella, get there at 8am sharp to claim your spot. There are also casabella hooded loungers for rent for the day at Makiki Joe's on the beach.

I am staying in ko olina resort villa in May. Has anyone rented a golf cart to get around? Are their adequate paths to use the cart?

A golf cart came with our condo rental and we loved it. Our party included small kids and old folks so the cart made it easier to get around the area. Also it was a godsend for schlepping beach gear. There are paths and a designated golf cart lane. Have fun!
