My sister and I wanted to take surfing lessons and we found out about the Surf School online. It was a very pleasant experience. Dang and Greg were super accommodating, and Dang taught us all the basics that we needed to know about surfing. They also rented out two boards to my cousins who were already a bit more experienced. If you're looking for a a place with a more tranquil atmosphere in Thailand where you can also surf, Rayong is definitely the place to be. And don't forget to pay Dang and Greg a visit!

I checked out this small business a few days ago while hanging out in Rayong for a couple days, and it was an unexpected highlight. I was looking to rent a SUP for an afternoon, Greg and Dang, the owners, were super helpful from the beginning, explained the conditions weren't ideal for SUPing and recommended surfing instead. I hadn't planned it, but was able to get a solo lesson with Dang the next morning, where in an hour and a half she taught me all the skill I needed to be able to catch a wave, get up, and ride it in... Having never surfed before. The price for the lesson (1500 baht) includes an additional hour and a half after the one-on-one with Dang, solo on the board to put the newly learned skills to the test. That's the best way to learn, all on your own, and there's no feeling quite like succeeding all on your own! Seriously a great, unexpected experience. If and when I'm back in Thailand, I will make a trip to Rayong just to support this shop.
A Couple side notes:
The shop is on Mae Rumphung beach, if you stay in the actual town of Rayong its a 20 min (300 baht taxi) drive away. drivers know Nice Beach hotel- right next door to the shop/school- as a reference, or I ended up just staying at Nice Beach the next night, it wasn't bad, easy and convenient.
Rayong itself isn't a beautified tourist destination. It's a local beach town, which means it's rough around the edges a bit (minimum to no English, garbage on the beach) but that comes with the perks of getting authentic Thai hospitality, kindness and a nearly private beach- no crowds, Especially on weekdays, it's empty... The further to the left you go on the beach, the cleaner it is. If you are looking for a quiet place to chill out for a day or 2 close to Bangkok and fit in a great surf lesson, this is worth the visit.

Greg and Dang are running this school from their home, just behind the Nice Beach Hotel, so don´t go looking for them on the beach! The price for board rental is fair, and it´s a good beginner´s beach.

There is only one teacher per group..in phuket you would get one teacher per student for the same price. The quality of the class is also far below my expectation ( i have taken classes in phuket and other countries). The wave is also not accommodative for sufing but thats not the school's fault, though i would hv expected them to b frank before i travelled all the way there for the class.

We are sorry you feel that way. But we have photos of the other two first time beginner surfers which were in your group lesson standing up surfing on a wave which is very good for their first ever surfing lesson. We found it very strange you told our surfing instructor that you have had 10 surfing lesson before coming to us for a lesson, but you still could not stand up at all. We have given over 1,000 beginner surfing lesson over the last 5 years and never had a complaint like this before. We would like to wish you all the luck with your future surfing. Happy Surfing Rayong Everyone.

We organized this paddle board event with a group of 15 of young people from Rayong. We are all teachers in Rayong and we like to get together as a whole group once in a while. Greg, the owner of the surf school, was really helpful with organizing and very easy going. His wife practiced paddle boarding with us and she helped us in the best way she could. At the end it is up to us to learn how to stand up! :-) The beach is really nice and except for 1 banana boat, the ocean was all ours.
At the end of the day we had food, drinks and a Dj on the same beach.
There is plastic in the water but compared to some other places (like Pattaya) the water here is still really clean. There was minimum of plastic on the beach, so I guess people take care of it.
All in all, great, active and fun day! We will be back!

I have visited Rayong Surf School several times with my family over the last three years. Only 2.5 hours from Bangkok, Rayong is the perfect getaway destination for a long weekend away from the chaos of Bangkok, but without the hoards of tourists! Rayong Surf School is located on a quiet local beach, at Hat Mae Rumpung, where you can still experience the more authentic side of Thailand, and enjoy one of the few beaches in the Gulf of Thailand with decent waves. This family owned business is run by a friendly Aussie who is a keen surfer. His laid back attitude is contagious! They have a shop and provide skate, surf, skim and stand-up-paddle (SUP) board hire and lessons most days of the week at reasonable rates. They are a safe option for families with young or older kids, as well as individuals and couples looking for some fun in the sun. Waves or not, we've always found the right kind of board, and lessons to go with them, at Rayong Surf School. You can hire surf boards when the waves are good, SUP boards when its flat, and skim boards for everything in between! There are several high- and low-end hotels, and and a good handful of restaurants serving local seafood that is as fresh as it gets. If you stay longer than a weekend and are looking for other activities to keep the kids busy, there is a water park nearby, as well as local markets, and day trips to Koh Samet. And if that's all too much, there's always more than 10 kilometers of uninterrupted beach to explore! Stay cool Rayong Surf School! We'll be back soon.

We had great fun surfing with family and friend thanks to the Rayong Surf School. It's 2.5hrs from Bangkok. The beach is peaceful quiet local atmosphere. You need some luck to get there on surf day. But even if no surf, you can enjoy SUP rent from the surf school. And there is Koh Samet, beautiful small island just 10min by speed boat. Beside the beach road area have great seafood restaurants.
My favorite escape destination from chaotic Bangkok!

This family is filled with kindness and generosity. Amazing people! They organize "clean our beach" days multiple times a year, friendly to everyone they cross paths with, and promote surfing in such a positive way! Rayong is a great place to escape tourism and enjoy the beautiful beach lifestyle and culture of Thailand! About a 3-5 hr van ride from Bangkok! Give it a shot!!

1)how far your surf school is from Rayong bus terminal?
2)how much is the rental of the surf board?
3)do you have a rental room within your resort?
Thank you very much. Get there soon.
