We hired a boat from just outside the Taprospa hotel beachfront at Beruwala from a fisherman named Silva who speaks fluent English and also knowledgeable about the place.

The short boat ride was thrilling as there was a bit of wind in the morning. The walk upto the lighthouse was interspersed with Silva's tales of this island. He explained the damage the 2006 Tsunami caused to the island's quaint little restaurant near the pier front. Now only the shell of this structure remains with the roof blown off. We were greeted by one of the staff manning the lighthouse as we were shown around the place.

The view from the light house is amazing as we could see for miles around the coast till the distant mountains of Sri Lanka. The views are truly worth the trip. Silva explained some of the basic workings of the light house and also a few of the British equipments that keep the lighthouse operational.

Truly, the trip to Barberyn Island will remain a highlight of our trip to Beruwala and Sri Lanka.

We were five families staying at the Cinnamon Bey Hotel in Beruwela and we took a boat ride to the Island which is about 10 mts ride .. We presumed that we would be able to climb up to the lighthouse but were quite disappointed when we reached there to find out that the place was closed. But it was lovely there and the view was awesome. The boat ride cost us Rs. 6000/- for three trips to take us over. However, do check on the life jackets etc before booking the boat. Since I dont swim, it was quite scary as the sea was very choppy that morning. But the kids had a great time.

The Island is small but nice for a small picnic. The boat ride to the island is more fun and exhilarating. Must go.

Nothing much to do at the lighthouse than a short stop for a pic or two. The lighthouse is close to the beach and requires a short walk.

Although I haven't physically been to Barberyn Island, I flew my drone from Moragolla Beach.(about 10 mins flying time) to the Barberyn Island. The aerial footage looks amazing from the sky with surrounding ocean with crystal clear water, not to mention the main lighthouse.

the boat ride to the island takes a bout 15 minutes from the MARADANA fishing Harbour which is 2.5 KM south from the Beruwala Fishery Harbour.the ride cost Rs 1000 both ways which is reasonable. After you get of on the island you walk 200 meters and you come to the light house which maintained by the cose conservation and under the harbour masters perwive.i payed Rs200 to the get to the top of the lighthouse which was a fantastic experience one could have and also have a look at the old equipment that had been used.

We went by taxi from Kalutara to Bentota, to visit the turtle refuge and spend an hour or so on a Bentota river trip. On our return, the driver spurned the main road and took us on a much more interesting and pretty coast road. One of the best sights on this road was the Barberyn Lighthouse, painted in white and positioned among many palm trees on a small island. It would have made a great photo but unfortunately my camera had given up the ghost, after many years, with the on/off button no longer functioning. The lighthouse is just south of the Beruwala fishing village and can be visited by small boat if you have the time..
