About
Panagiotis and Nektaria started their business in March 2001, with the simple goal of sharing what they already produced - their famous pistachios. Panagiotis, a farmer by trade, has spent 30 years working with pistachio production and cultivation. Nektaria is a passionate confectioner, putting all her love into the sweets she makes using pistachios. Today, at their shop located on the pedestrian street Pan. Ireioti 57, behind Aegina's well-known fish market, you can find Panagiotis' pistachios freshly roasted every day - with or without salt, shelled or raw. Also try the famous housemade pastelli, made with toasted sesame, pistachios and honey, and the pistachio marsipan with caramel. Or go for the traditional almond biscuits, baklava with pistachios, or one of the many spoon sweets and marmalades. - The pistachio came to Aegina in the early 1900s, when N. Peroglou, a doctor, brought the first trees with him from Syria. He kept his plantation hidden at first, but once the secret got out, more plantations slowly but steadily spread over the island, and today the nuts are produced mainly through monoculture. The Aegina pistachio was grafted onto the Chios terebinth tree, and is a variety unique for Aegina island.

My friend and I went to Aegina for a day trip and stumbled upon this lovely store. It's a family owned business and the goods were absolutely amazing. We also got to meet the pastry chef (owner's son), George. His baklava was the best I ever had...I bought a couple of boxes to bring to the USA. They packaged things very well. If given the opportunity, I would absolutely go back there again!!

the shop was our last stop on Aegina and it was worth the wait. The staff are warm and helpful. We sampled a variety of items before we bought. I am only sorry that I did not buy more quantity of their wonderful pistachio treats.

This shop literally is amazing. My partner and I had researched places to see and go before we went and we came across this just by chance. We took the 30 minute ferry trip to Aegina just for the pistachios. From the minute we walked in the owner approached us and asked us to sample some of the delicacies and recommended lots of goodies for us to bring back home with us. Since coming back home friends and family haven't stopped commenting on how delicious the treats were.
Thoroughly recommend this place to everyone!!!

The layout is so attractive but this sweet things place is a lot more than a lolly/candy shop elsewhere. Most stuff started life as fresh food.
Our No. 1 pick is the candied (ie glacé) pistachios. I’m guessing nowhere else would have these so it is likely to ha an ‘only in Aegina’ thing. We got a baklava version AND a jar to take home. I so wanted to get the flour-free chocolate bread croutons but our packing won’t allow this!
So many interesting things and the locals clearly buy spices by the gram here.

Thank you for visiting our store! This is a great comment from a person that lives in a country so famous and has a long tradition in Baklava making!

Produce aficionados look no further than Mourtzis. This is no run-of-the-mill shop - their pistachios are deep in flavor with a reddish hue and thin shells. What's more is that the store sources its pistachios from the family's farm right on the island of Aegina.
Make sure you grab some warm pistachio to go - pair it with some feta and Assyrtko wine and you're off to a great start!

We are planning a trip to Greece -- 3 days in Athens, one overnight to Delphi and the rest of the time in Santorini. We have an extra day in between. I am not sure if we should take the day trip to Aegina to see the temple Aphaia or just head to Santorini a day earlier. Any recommendations? Thank you.

You are welcome!!! Actually Aegina is near Athens and it s too easy travel to here!!! Almost every hour there is a boat to Aegina the tickets its about 8-14euro per person. When you ll arrive here you can take a ride with bike or with motorcycle, if you want you can take a car and see all the places. Perdika is one of the most beutiful and traditional places there are mostly fishermans thats why you ll see many boats you can eat fresh seafood and take a coffee around there! As you going back to the town you ll find Aeginitissa and Marathonas beach it s also very good! Don t forget to go to the temple of Aphea Athina, the temple of colona (near the port) and to saint Nectarios (aeginitians have him as protect saint of the island and of their lifes) and Palea hora the old capital of Aegina (more information at wiki and discoveraegina. Also you can go to Agia Marina swim at the sea and drink a cocteil! After all these.. visit us!!! We will wait fo you!!!
