About Captain George Santorini Yachting
Captain George was raised and educated in Australia and has over 30 years experience in skippering sea craft around the Greek Islands and is the creator of the sunset cruise in its present form! His passion for the sea and tradition has lead him to restore one of the most important boats that was used for transportation of people and goods between the islands and the mainland for centuries. It all started back in the early 90’s when he started BBQ cruises on Santorini and various islands in the Aegean – reminiscent of the Australian weekends of his youth. The boat is the S/Y Eleftheria, a 55-foot wooden built traditional Greek Kaiki -Trechandiri or working boat, which nowadays are open museums and carry memories of a world that is fading right in front of us. We also cater for VIP tours, private charters, sunset cruise and individual itineraries, BBQ trips and full day tours around Santorini and the surrounding Islands.

We contacted George about a semi-private sunset cruise and he was able to arrange a trip for us with another couple so we had the whole boat for the 4 of us (plus George, his first mate and his super cute dog), much nicer than some of the crowded catamarans we saw with the larger tour companies! The visit to the hot springs was definitely the highlight of our Santorini trip - we had the spot to ourselves and we could spend as much time as we wanted at the springs since there was no set schedule - we spent so long we almost missed the sunset! George prepared dinner whilst we were swimming, the food was delicious. Towels, inflatable tubes and transport to and from our hotel was provided. Would highly recommend Captain George if you are visiting Santorini!

Captain George delivers. He picked up a party of 8 in Oia and drove us to his boat. Everything we needed was provided. We ate and drank well, swam in two locations (Red Beach and Hot Springs), cruised beside dramatic cliffs and learned the geology from Captain George. The boat was very comfortable, getting off and on was easy. The first mate was so attentive that he would literally give you the shirt off his back! George provided floatation devices for those who were uncomfortable in the water, which was crystal clear. He guided us to wonderful sunset views. This six hour sail was the best way possible to spend a day. Trust Captain George.

If you want to skip the crowds of catamaran “sail boats” Captain George and his 1971 Greek wooden sail boat is the real deal. He picked us up at our hotel and brought us directly to the marina. From their we motored our to swim into the hot springs at the center of the caldera! It was truly amazing going into the warm sulfur waters that all the other guide boats avoided. George said they didn’t give anyone the real story because it would take them too long. Well we had a very long swim while George cooked a fresh lunch on the deck. We sailed back to the marina and he took us back to our hotel. Great experience and way more authentic learning about the boat, it’s history and all that George has to share. Highly recommended, clean bathroom on board for the ladies, great food!

We booked a private sunset cruise for our family of 5 adults and the trip exceeded our expectations. With transport to and from the hotel included, clear communication prior to the trip and an overall great day with fabulous food and drink, we would all highly recommend this company for sailing excursions

This summer, I sailed with Captain George for the FOURTH time! My family found his company through Trip Advisor reviews nearly 10 years back now, and I have been a committed patron ever since. Captain George is an incredible guide - he knows a ton about the island, Greek culture, sailing, etc. He is there to chat when you want, but also very respectful of your privacy and time with friends/family. Captain George will give you and your guests a memorable time out on the water. You'll learn about the landscape, swim in the clear waters, and relax in the volcanic hot springs. He even cooks a traditional Greek meal for you on the boat! Every time I have been to Santorini, this ends up being my favorite day/excursion of the whole trip! I have brought new friends and family with me each time I go and continue to recommend his cruise to anyone headed to the island. You won't regret booking a trip with this traditional, authentic, and incredible guy! Tell him I said hello when you finally make it out :)
