About
Captain George was raised and educated in Australia and has over 30 years experience in skippering sea craft around the Greek Islands and is the creator of the sunset cruise in its present form! The boat is the S/Y Eleftheria, a 55-foot wooden built traditional Greek Kaiki -Trechandiri or working boat, which nowadays are open museums !! Join us on a cruise that will give you the opportunity to see Santorini through our eyes! Forget your motor powered plastic yachts that you can find anywhere in the world. Go back to the basics and you have yourself an adventure which is as pure and natural as the surrounding beauty itself.

We contacted George about a semi-private sunset cruise and he was able to arrange a trip for us with another couple so we had the whole boat for the 4 of us (plus George, his first mate and his super cute dog), much nicer than some of the crowded catamarans we saw with the larger tour companies!

The visit to the hot springs was definitely the highlight of our Santorini trip - we had the spot to ourselves and we could spend as much time as we wanted at the springs since there was no set schedule - we spent so long we almost missed the sunset! George prepared dinner whilst we were swimming, the food was delicious. Towels, inflatable tubes and transport to and from our hotel was provided. Would highly recommend Captain George if you are visiting Santorini!

We had a fabulous day out with Captain George, just the three of us! We stopped for swimming and snorkelling and visited the hot springs in a different place than everyone else. Lunch was delicious. Can highly recommend this trip, so much so that we plan to return to Santorini again next year, just to do this trip!

We arrived in Santorini via cruise ship. I had booked this tour months ago and close to the date of getting there, Captain George gave me very good directions where we would meet. He was very punctual and we got to his sail yacht early enough in the day to have a full day of fun. Captain George has an old timy sail boat, about 50 feet long, built in 1974. He has maintained it wonderfully and when you step on it, it is like stepping on a movie set from the 70s. Even the music he plays is of that era! We began by sailing to the red beach where he anchored off shore and we all jumped in the water. After that he took us to the volcano which created the island of Santorini when it exploded. It is still active and under the Aegean Sea there are hot springs. We swam in there as well and it was amazing to swing from very cool water to pretty hot. We didn’t swim all the way to where the water reached 105 temp but up to where it started to feel like hot bath water. The water there was not clear like at the first stop because there is a lot of sulfur in the water from the volcano. After we got back on the boat, he started making us lunch. Very traditional Greek lunch-Greek salad, stuffed grape leaves, grilled fish, pita bread and tomato fritters. Plus before then, his assistant welcomed us with fresh cut watermelon, and later a spread of appetizers. After lunch, we sailed around the island more and he explained the history of everything we were seeing. We stopped one more time where the water was crystal clear again and saw some very pretty fish. Once we arrived back in port, a van was waiting for us and took us back to where we got on the cable car down to the port of Santorini. It was an amazing experience. My kids who are 10 and 7 said this was the best day of their lives. It was truly amazing. We saw lots of modern catamarans following the same route as us but what made it special was that this was an authentic old fashion sail yacht.
I highly recommend hiring Captain George. Here are some pics.

My 9 girlfriends and I wanted to experience the Santorini Caldera by boat (a MUST for anyone visiting the island) and we were lucky enough to come across Captain George, whose boat is one of the few traditional wooden boats still around. We booked the 5 hour sunset cruise directly with him and he was brilliant at replying immediately to all my emails and providing all the information we needed.

Our cruise was private and if we wanted, we could have tailored the trip to our fancy, although we left it all in the Captain's capable hands, since his itinerary was already perfect for us. It was great value as well, since the price included transfers by minivan to and from our hotel in Fira, free-flowing wine, beer & ouzo, delicious snacks and fruit as we cruised along, and a really good bbq later on in the afternoon. The other crew member, Thomas, was extremely efficient in keeping our glasses constantly topped up and they both very patiently put up with our boisterousness and merriment.

On the trip, we cruised past the beautiful Red Beach, stopped for a swim at the White Beach, sailed into the Caldera, stopped for another dip at the Hot Springs (although we only swam in the cool part, as it was too hot to swim further in, into the 35degree water) and then cruised around the Caldera and back out, while watching the beautiful sunset over the Aegean Sea. We had one more stop at the White Beach and then sailed back into Vlychada.

It was indeed a wonderful experience for all of us and we cannot thank Captain George enough for a truly fun afternoon on his unique boat.

If you want to sail in the famous Santorini Caldera, his wooden boat is the one to choose...it stands out among the numerous catamarans and makes you feel truly special...efcharistó Captain George, until next time!!

Captain George's sunset cruise was the perfect choice for our pre wedding night.  We brought 15 people from four countries to his classic sailing boat. We swam, sunned, played and ate the food cooked for us by him and his crew.  Far superior to the crowded tourists cruises - our own private boat provided five hours of bonding time that was the highlight of our Santorini weekend. When we look back at our wedding weekend , the boat trip was the thing that set our wedding apart. It brought mom's, siblings and friends from different places into a joyful experience that was one of a kind . I couldn't recommend captain George with his years of international sailing experience more .  If you are going to Santorini and want to provide a memorable experience for yourself and some friends or family or a group don't skip this chance .  This was my fifth continuous year in love with the caldera, but the first time I got to sea her really from a boat that felt integral to the place, and with a captain that lives and breathes the sea.  I am only jealous that you dear reader will get to go probably before I can again next year.

We went out with Captain George on a semi-private cruise. It was my wife and I, and we were paired with another group of 5. The boat was a perfect size for that number of people, and I felt like we were able to interact with the other group while also being able to enjoy our own company. The cruise itself was very beautiful and an absolute great time. We went to a local beach, where Captain George docked the boat and we got out and swam. We then went to the volcanic hot springs and swam there. Captain George cooked an amazing dinner (one of the best we had in Santorini) which we were able to eat by sunset. Captain George keeps the beer and wine flowing and has a great playlist for the voyage. Could not have asked for more!

On an island that is overpriced and over crowded, spending the afternoon on Captain George's Eleftheria boat was like winning the lottery. Captain George and Michael were the perfect hosts as they too us around the better part of Santorini. The boat was super clean, the itinerary was very leisurely, and the stops were perfect. What separates this excursion from the several other options is the small size of the boat, the variation in the itinerary that allowed us to avoid the masses, and an eclectic choice of stops. For the photography buff, this was a perfect way to see and to photograph the red and white beaches, as well as the area around the volcano and the real hot springs. For those familiar with the term filoxenia, Capain George and Michael embodied it in full. We were greeted with fruit, drinks, and after every stop some additional snacks. Dinner was also very decent and abundant. One thing for sure - Captain George has given us a reason to look forward to future visits to Santorini.

We had a great experience with Captain George. He is very knowledgeable of the area and easy to chat with. The BBQ dinner was amazing and appreciated the smaller more personal venue. The hot springs and the sunset cruise are a must do while on the island.
