- KV232014Amsterdam, The Netherlands15 contributionsExcellent place to see birdsThis is great nature place a little outside Bogota. The park is beautiful and has an awesome variety of birds including humming birds. Excellent restaurant in the park with lot of food options. Be prepared for steep hiking but its worth it. We went on a Friday and it was peaceful and quiet and hardly any other people around. Trails are well marked as well. Highly recommend it! But dont trust the traffic on the way; it took us 4 hours on the way back to Bogota due to an accident on the road.Visited March 2020Traveled as a coupleWritten March 9, 2020
- katherine153Lancaster, United Kingdom276 contributionsLovely natural areaWe had a day trip here from Bogota. Be warned, the birdwatching is not easy!!! This is cloud forest with high/dense trees covering lots of the area. The path down was steep, damp and very slippery, making it very hard work, especially when craning one's neck up into the trees to spot birds. The flatter area at the bottom was lovely and relaxing, making it easier to watch the birds, and the meal in the restaurant was very nice.Visited February 2022Written March 15, 2022

We had a private tour with driver and guide with a lovely lunch included. A relaxing day despite bad Sunday traffic.Visited June 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten June 27, 2023

From Bogotà, you have to take a Transmilenio to "Portal de la 80" and take a bus (coomofu) to Mosqueira parque (2700 COP). Once there, take another bus to Soacha (3000COP) and ask the driver for the parque Chicaque. Afterwords you have to walk about half an hour on a dirt road and you will arrive to the entrance of the park. A nice guide will explain you the best way for you according to the weather and the time on your hands. The price is a bit high for Colombian standards (14000 COP), but the service is good and the park is well-kept. You will experience a 3000mt jungle with hummingbirds, wonderful flora and stunning views. If you want to have lunch, there is a beautiful "Refugio" half way, the price is 13000 COP x person. food is good and the place is incredible. You can book a van to come back straight to Bogotà (5000 COP)Visited April 2015Traveled with friendsWritten April 27, 2015
- JKCDMom391 contributionsexpert hikers onlyThis is a beautiful place. I will tell you , even the easiest hike down the mountain is very hard. I would say for experienced hikers only. You will need to approach this place with a LOT of water and nuts and granola bars. Extreme hiking! The lodge area, once you reach it, is beautiful...bare minimum on food, but ok. They do have a limited menu with full lunch service, cokes, beer, water...Zip Lining and Rapelling are available here as well. I would caution you about riding the horses back to the top of the mountain. Do NOT do this. I am an experienced rider and this was one of the most harrowing experiences of my life. Dangerous...no instruction (Spanish spoken only), no helmets..it is straight up on concrete and rocks. The horses slip and slide all over. The "guide" is constantly urging them to trot.gallop UP. Really bad experience!Visited July 2014Traveled with friendsWritten July 19, 2014
- Diana CChicago, Illinois35 contributionsOut of my kid's fantasy books!A truly beautiful place. The views are amazing. On one side there are low clouds around a rocky mountain and on the other side there is a valley of green fields each with a different shade of green. As the clouds lift you are suddenly facing a tall steep mountain. It seemed like a scene out of my kids fantasy books. We are a family of 5 who love to visit national parks in the US. We have been to Zion, Acadia, Yosemite, Arches, Crater Lake, Glacier, … and compared to the walks in those parks, the path in and out of Chicaque is a moderate walk (steep but not hard specially if you go along the path for the Jeeps). However, it was clear that most people visiting this park are not the hiking type. Many people walk down when they arrive and take a jeep or ride a horse on the way out. Those Jeeps have to go. You can avoid walking along the Jeeps by taking a different path (the same path you take on the way down) but those Jeeps are a disgrace for a nature park. Yes, it is true that they don’t provide maps but for an entrance fee of $6.50 (US dollars), I have no problem with them saving some paper. Print a map before you go. The map does not make it clear that one path is a trail where only people can go and another path is for people, horses and Jeeps. It will be easy to figure it out once you are there even if the road signs are not great. The climate was neither hot nor cold just misty. Great for hiking. Wonderful view from Eagle’s Peak. The Roquedal trail is great but the rocks are slippery. No cliffs. Just slippery rocks. The food at the Refugio is not great but a step up from the food usually found at US National Parks. We started hiking too late so we did not have time to take other trails once we arrived to the bottom. I wish we had stayed at the tree house. Next time.Visited December 2013Traveled with familyWritten January 10, 2014
- allisonn8705 contributionsA trip to the cloud forestVery pretty park, you will certainly get your workout on the hiking trails with a steep incline and lots of steps - just what we were looking for. There are no animals in the park that we saw, but when you get down to the camping area/Refugio lodge, there are several horses grazing which was fun to see. Some advice for future travelers - there are guides at the entrance, I don't think they are necessarily worth the expense, you can find other travelers and follow them to be sure you stay on the right path. However, there are no maps, not great signage, so it may be easy to get yourself on the wrong path. We stayed in the Tangara treehouse, great spot! We loved how unique and secluded the treehouse experience was, and even had hot water in the shower. The price of the stay was quite expensive for an upscale camping experience - and we weren't informed in advance that this did not cover admission to the park! As a courtesy, they did waive the fee since that information had not been communicated to us prior. Some advice for future guests, there is no check in process at the arrival gate, so you will want to head down the trail to Refugio lodge and let them know you are staying at the property - it will really help to know some Spanish. We had hired a guide who took us to the Refugio asked specifically asked what was included in our lunch package that came with the stay, but after we finished lunch, we were informed that there was a separate menu included in the stay - there was no way for us to know about this since they didn't mention it when we asked, and therefore, we incurred an additional charge that they weren't willing to waive even though it was not our error. Overall, we really enjoyed the stay in the room and the hikes, but just beware that it is pretty expensive with some hidden fees, and there are no animals in this forest other than a few birds very high in the trees (there are many airplanes overhead and also a road to the back of the resort, so this may scare the animals away).Visited March 2013Traveled as a coupleWritten April 5, 2013

- daisy21988Maracaibo, Venezuela405 contributionsAmazing destination for locals, but not a recommended day trip if you have limited timeI live in Bogota and I'm surprised that not many locals know about this park that is just outside the city. When we arrived, a ranger explained the geological formations in the park and gave us suggestions for our stay. We reserved the Tangara treehouse in advance and hiked down there without any issues. The treehouse is beautiful and comfortable. With all meals included I think it works out to be a good deal. The hike out of the park is a rough one. It is about 2km going up a steep trail the whole way. It took us about an hour to hike down, and 2 hours to hike back up. Thankfully the cloud forest provides a lot of shade and cool breezes so it's not too terrible. The reason that I wouldn't recommend this for visitors with limited time is the infamous traffic. It nearly ruined the trip for us! It took almost 2 hours to travel about 25km to the park... you have to pass through the south part of the city and through a town called Soacha, which is completely congested with traffic. Staying overnight seems to be the best option - cabins and campsites are available, as well as rooms in the main lodge.Visited February 2015Traveled as a coupleWritten February 28, 2015

For the cost of admission, at least expect to have a map or a guide to the distances, but no.
It's a pretty extensive tour and has no points with water fountains
They have the ability to evacuate injured or fatigued quickly, there is only one old Russian truck.
The food is quite regular in the lowest point, just where you come hungry and expect to eat and drink.
Bathrooms quite unpleasant.

I visited the Park on September 30 with a Canadian friend. It was sunny and we got to see the ”Nevado del Ruiz” from the Park entrance. We went birding and hiked all the way to the waterfall, what a gorgeous place! The Park was clean, VERY safe (I’ll take my camera with me next time!), and the trails were well marked. All trails get you to the “Refugio” (a nice place to have lunch/beer/rest) so there is no way to get lost. We got to the Park in a cab but didn´t have a plan to go back to Bogota. We went back to Soacha in a bus with the park workers and met Mayerly (I believe she works at the restaurant). Mayerly went above and beyond! She took us to the Transmilenio and even paid for our tickets (she refused to take money from us!). She told us the park history in our way to Bogota and gave us lots of advice for next visits. She cared about us and made easy our way back to Bogota! Thanks to Mayerly and to Chicaque for a wonderful day! I'd go back, its a safe and beautiful place to visit even in your own! Lots of birds and nice people!

This park is beyond beautiful. You cannot be closer to nature than this! The walk is very tough but it's worth every second of it. The hotel and restaurant is very very comfortable, plus the staff is super nice. Food is really simple but yummy. The cabanas are nice and clean with a really cute chimney, great for couples looking to get away. I will highly recommend and would come back anytime!

The park its wonderful, water falls, fog forest, oak forest, its absolutely beautiful.
The problems start when you have to pay, entrance its a little expensive (compared to another parks) the issue here is transportation, from the parking zone to the main spot in the park where all the hikes start is about 3km, 3km of rough hike, the park has a pavemented road however you cannot use your car, you have to use the transportation service they offer, they charge per person, per route around 12k pesos, if you are traveling with family this is a huge price just to get to the main site of the park, they have turned this as their main income and its not fair with people, we didnt have the chance to see the main spots cause to get from the entrance to the farthest point its a 6h hike.
Please review the prices, its a shame we cant get to enjoy the beauty cause some peoples business.

Donde es mejor acampar, en la entrada o en el refugio? Gracias!!!
Buenas tardes el parque cuenta con parqueadero...si me regala el calor gracias
I am having trouble getting ahold of the park and they have not responded to my email.
I would like to reserve the Tangers Nest for one night on October 25th.
Hi there, I am having trouble contacting the park office to reserve a space for the Tangers Nest Tree house. Do you have any recommendations? I have also emailed the park with no reply.

Buenas noches.
