My friend and I did it twice and we left really happy. The second day was great and we got to swim with many orcas while they were eating tons of fish. However it is an activity envolving wild animals, you can’t predict what you will see each day.

I have been in contact with Rolf from Lofoten Opplevelser for a year and a half, since I have been trying to make this amazing trip. He has always been extremely responsive and helpful from the beginning. I eventually booked two dates to swim with the orcas, Dec 31 2021 and Jan 1 2022. Rolf makes it clear that it all depends on the whales, on the weather and many other factors. But he will do everything to make this dream happen for you. He will literally go the extra mile to ensure that you have an amazing time, that everytime you jump in the water you do get to see the animals and that you have a good time. We were very lucky on the first day since we saw many orcas and humpbacks, but the cold was very strong to handle (despite the many suits they give you to cover up) and Rolf realized I was freezing my hands and helped me with warm water every time I got out of the water. He would even help me put on my gloves every single time they would slip off. Really an amazing guide and person. Most knowledgeable about the animals and their behaviors. The second day I was sick and couldn’t attend the expedition. I would recommend to always book at least two trips so if something happens (with you or the weather) you are covered. All in all 100% recommended. Rolf is the best!!

My dreams came true with Lofoten Opplevelser!! I snorkeled with orcas in the wild because of this company. We had booked with another company Sea Safari Andenes first as SSA came up first in the Google searches. Our experience with them was pretty poor compares to Lofoten Opplevelser. SSA did have a very good tour guide, but unfortunately the company lets them down. We were freezing cold on the way out, the RIB boat was packed so not much room to move around to get some warmth with -20 degree winds on the boat. Although the day we went out to sea, no snorkeling companies allowed for snorkeling due to poor weather conditions, but even if you could snorkel, you were frozen being out on the boat despite 5 layers of my own thermals under their dry suit. We had a recommendation to try Lofoten Opplevelser who were a little more expensive than SSA but they had a good reputation for trying to get you in the waters compared with SSA. Lofoten Opplevelser did not disappoint. Not only did they ensure your comfort by providing you with a thinsulate suit under the dry suit, which made a huge difference, they really cared about you during the entire trip. They provided ski goggles, extra jackets to keep yoy warm when going out to sea, but also helped you in any way they could. Out at sea in the fjords, at every opportunity I thought I could get into the waters with the orcas, they encouraged you to get it, making sure you seized every opportunity possible. I had the most magic encounters with the orcas and made memories I hope to never forget. I understand that you are traveling out in unpredictable conditions to snorkel with Orcas, but Lofoten Opplevelser truly went the extra mile for you and are far more likely to get you in the waters with the orcas.

We did this trip at the start of this season. We were also unfortunate not to be able to swim with the orcas so were obviously disappointed about that. Of course it is bitterly disappointing to come away without the result that you had hoped for. However, our experience of the company itself was very positive. I think it's very easy to direct disappointment at the company, however this is not a theme park. You can not control the weather or the orcas. All staff on our trip were incredibly friendly and professional. They did everything they could to make us as comfortable as possible. When we hit a squall and the waves were high and snow hitting our faces, they were there bringing around ski masks and giving out extra gloves, helping us try to warm our hands even though this meant their own hands must have been so cold. When we got out they helped everyone out of their drysuits and arranged a lecture by the marine biologist who accompanied the trip. To find the orcas you have to find the herring, which our boat did, but sadly on our day it was not to be. We were allowed to have a swim in the sea at the end which was an interesting experience (felt really warm compared to the outside!). My take away points would be 1) It can be a tough day - it's extremely cold and the weather can be rough. Remember that you're in the Arctic - do not expect the trip to be easy! It's fascinating being up there so make the most and take in the surroundings and definitely go in the water if you are offered the chance. 2) Book more than one day so everything doesn't hinge on one chance. 3) There appear to have been plenty of orcas in this area this season, so the location was good and the company are very experienced in finding them. Unfortunately it may just come down to bad luck if you don't get to see any. We were probably a bit too early in the season.

I was on a snorkeling trip with a friend of my in November, and it was one of the greatest experience of our lives! We saw a lot of whales, which was fortunate cause you really can't control that and the crew did an excellent job at dropping us at the right time for some amazing views under water. It might be good to look at booking more than one day though if you plan on doing this, since some days can have rough weather, or there can be days when no orcas are spotted.
