We kayakked around Henningsvær for 3 hrs. Our guide Marco was super friendly and welcoming. He thought us the basics of paddling a single kayak which we had never done before. The weather could have been better as it were a bit windy, but Marco adjusted the route perfectly after the conditions.

First, our guide Peter was amazing. Me and my friends (from CA) got really lucky. They usually close, but because of the good weather, Peter decided to stay open for a few days more. We were lucky enough to experience ideal conditions, sunny and calm waters. Peter was an awesome guide and let us just enjoy the ride without being too "guidey" Would highly recommend

My husband and I went out winter kayaking and what a fantastic experience!

Firstly, Henningsvær is a beautiful place; kayaking through the harbour and out around the surrounding small islands was such a lovely experience. If you are choosing between here and Svolvær, I definitely recommend Henningsvær; a much quieter and prettier location and easy to get to (we got the bus which was regular throughout the day).

Peter is a great guide making for a fun and comfortable tour. The equipment was good quality and you don’t need to worry about being cold - the dry suits kept us very warm. The weather threatened to stop our tour, but Peters flexibility meant that we were able to track the weather even on the day and make a decision.

A great experience all round, thanks Peter! :)

Hi Louise Thank you very much for this great review, I appreciate a lot that you took your time to write about the tour. I’m happy you enjoyed the winter tour, the kayak gear and guiding. I always try my best so you can get a nice and lasting memory about Lofoten, its nature and its history from the water side. Cheers and all the best, Peter.

Peter gave us a detailed introduction about the fishing village history in Henningsvaer. The guided tour was at 10am, but it was windy in the morning. Peter changed it to pm and the weather was excellent, able to see the lovely sunset. The gear provided was very suitable to kayaking under the cold weather.

We took a 3 hour tour in kayaks around Henningsvaer with this company. From start to finish it was professionally run and felt very safe. We had friendly guides Tiago and Axel and learned lots about the town and Lofoten Islands. 3 hours was perfect for us as almost beginners but it would suit anyone as the scenery was stunning. We saw lots of sea birds - the highlight was an eagle - got up close sea urchins and ate seaweed that tasted of truffles! There was even an opportunity to swim but none of our group fancied it. If you are in Lofoten do not hesitate to book a tour with Kayak Lofoten

Spent around a week in Lofoten and this place's customer service was second to none. Booking was both easy, flexible and friendly. It was a fun paddling experience which also provided insight into the history and wildlife of Henningsvaer.

Can't rave enough about this experience. Our guides were so kind, fun, knowledgable. We felt very well taken care of. The kayaking was hard in places but again the guides were patient and encouraging. Stunning breathtaking scenery.

Yes, yes, yes! Do this! So beautiful, a once in a lifetime experience. We had a gorgeous day on the water. Peter was a wonderful guide - friendly, kind, told good stories, and gave us coffee and chocolate! What a beautiful adventure!

We booked our midnight sun kayaking trip over a month in advance. The day before the trip I got an email from Peter advising to reschedule to a daytime trip, due to bad weather forecasts. Having done some research on the weather myself, I insisted on sticking with the midnight sun trip, as this would mean an added value for us. The evening of the trip proved to be the first calm weather in weeks, and we were happy with our decision to stick with the initial booking.
Upon arrival at the office 5 minutes early of the specified meeting time, the office was closed: "We're out peddling" it said. I called Peter and he told me that they were gearing up at the hotel nearby, just a 5 minute walk, and he kindly apologized for not communicating this meeting point before.
Arriving at the hotel Peter was completely preoccupied with handing out the kayaking gear to a whole lot of guests. We started to wonder why so many subscriptions were even done knowing that he didn't trust the weather the day before...
It soon became clear he did not have enough sprayskirts for all of us. "I had more, but they got stolen from me (by a friend) a few days ago" he claimed. Quickly after that he acknowledged that he overbooked. Although we were last to arrive on the scene, I immediately stressed that we had booked over a month ago.
Then he handed out the life vests to us. Or what would have to serve as a life vest. I got a child-sized life vest that never seemed to be intended for sea kayaking. I was absolutely sure that if anything happened, I could not trust this vest to keep me afloat. But being a scuba diver, having calm weather and having done such a sea kayaking trip before, I trusted that no accident would even happen and I wouldn't really need those tools. But hey, we began to feel like we were going pay the full price for an unprofessionally organized experience. So, with no sprayskirt and an insufficient life vest we went off to the boats. A quick count taught us that there would NOT be enough boats for all of us. After a while Peter started counting them himself. When I asked "Will you have enough?" his response still was "I think so, yes". 10 minutes later, He pointed to a fully geared up German girl whose friend was already in a boat that he did not have enough boats and that she should miss the trip, as she was the last one to subscribe. That's the point where we stepped in and offered to skip this trip and allow that girl to join. We had several reasons to decide that:
- We did not have sufficient gear (life vest and sprayskirt), The girl however, was fully equipped.
- Due to the previous unprofessional handling, we lost our motivation to go on this trip.
- We had growing concerns about our own safety. If things get handled this bad even when we haven't started yet, what could possibly come good of the trip itself.

I can't review the actual kayaking trip. I honestly hope (and I might even think) it was amazing to all who participated. But I don't regret having called it off.

To Peter: Despite being friendly and eager to help anyone, willing to take us on the trip despite the problems that came with your overbooking: please be honest to yourself and to your guests from the very beginning. I suspect your mail the day before was intended to make us reschedule and resolve your overbooking that way. Make sure that everybody who will eventually join can be sufficiently equipped. I prefer guides who tell guests not to join when no good life vest in available anymore, same about the sprayskirts. I would prefer safety to come first, instead of making sure everybody can join while slowly but surely giving in on your and their safety along your chain of decisions. We were happy to resolve your problem by not joining, but I sincerely hope you will learn from this mistake.

To all who've gone to the bottom of the review. Sea kayaking in the Lofoten is unquestionably spectacular, and a must on your activity list. I honestly believe Kayak Lofoten will do their very best to give you the best possible experience, but we can only review our experience about NOT joining the trip.

Best regards,

Dieter & Valérie

Dear Dieter & Valerie Sorry for late reply but we have been quite busy lately. I fully take responsibility and please accept my sincere apologies. Poor communication made me forget to send you meeting place at Henningsvaer Bryggehotel, which was the reason by everything went wrong. You where the first ones to book the trip, that is correct, then things were done wrong and we overbooked the evening trip. As I equipped everyone as they arrived, and since you arrived last due to not letting you know correct meeting place, all equipment was already given and I had to borrow some boat life vests which didn't´t fit you. My intention was to take another route that evening to see the Sunset but since wind came from the west that was the problem, and we had to take another route below the mountains. That is why we wanted to rebook you for a morning or afternoon tour, but since you want to stick to the evening tour we keep the tour and it got overbooked the same day due to a mistake. As a resoult of all the inconvenience we have taken a few steps to make sure this does not happen again: - We have done changes to the booking system to prevent overbooking, - We just got new life vest and ordered yesterday more spry decks. Yours truthfully Peter H Larsen.

We had a fantastic trip with Axel on apparently the first nice summer day (don‘t forget your sunscreen if the sun is out ;-) we just inquired via WhatsApp on the day before if a tour would be possible, Peter replied immediately and we were able to do a tour next day in the morning. We spent over 3 hours on the water in perfect weather, paddling up to the Henningsvaer mountain, cruising through the islands and under the bridges until arriving back in the harbour of Henningsvaer ( where ther is also a secret exit you can only appreciate in the kayak). Axel (who is from Mexico) was a good guide who made sue that nobody was left behind. If you are in Henningsvaer, do this :-)
