Lamai night market
Feb 2020
The night market in Lamai is something not to miss, with lots of different stalls selling everything from hand carved soaps to painted coconut shells, paintings and leather goods, it has an amazing atmosphere, food stalls with a great selection of thai dishes to tempt your tastebuds. A short distance from the market are the bars where you can watch young thai women pole dancing, I'll leave it to your imagination what's on sale there!!! Lots of old men from different countries sit and ogle the girls. Drinks are more expensive in these bars for obviously reasons. A fasinating experience if you haven't seen it before. Definitely something to see.

If you happen to be in Lamai on a Tuesday night

Very small market and we only heard about them because one of the stall owners at the Sunday night market told us about them.

Just the usual market without the food. We found a man selling good quality watches and nothing else, we purchased a watch duty free and it needed a few links taken out, he was happy to do it for 50 baht.

ok if you are staying near by
Dec 2018 • Couples
we visited in december, it was very quiet.
If you are in the area, i would recommend a visit to this market, otherwise i would not make a special trip.
I found the prices very expensive, my suggestion is to half the asking price, and negotiate from there.
There are also some shops lining each side of the market.
At the far end, a restaurant, Jim Joom BBQ, run by a mature couple, very cold, cheap beer, and very very nice food.

Decent shopping with lots of restaurant options

Went here with a bunch of friends in the evening - there’s a strip of pop up shops selling items from candles to jewelry to clothing. Best to bargain when here and keep in mind they sell knock off on label brands. There are tons of restaurant choices and it can be overwhelming so either look up reviews or go with what looks good to you!

Heard that this market is more limited than fisherman’s Village - which we plan to visit on a few days

Compared to the Night market in Fisherman's Village - it is not worth it.

If you are staying at Koh Samui for several days and you have an opportunity to choose either the Night market in Fisherman's Village or in Lamui, choose the first one. The food, supply and atmosphere in Lamui was so low compared to the much bigger, more intense and exciting Fisherman's Village, that it was a disappointment. Also we ate at least three or four different dishes here which all were a bit tasteless, to be honest.

Not a lot going on here.

We are here in May and there is not a lot of people in town.
The stall holders at the market though are not trying to help themselves in any way.
They generally seem uninterested and unwilling to barter much of a deal.
There is a lot of the same thing being sold here but for those little things to take home or small gifts this is your place. Not a great feel to it though but
maybe different in high season...
It's not a large market so have a look.

Boring and depressing

There is nothing special of this market. I’ll not recommend anyone to go there. We expected something more and will get something special but it was as usual. Nothing much.

Being on a Sunday night (every week), its full of people and at times you don't get any place to walk also. For me the main aspect of this was to try out the local eats available with small vendors. Loved the Waffles & Sticky rice with mango.

A great place for cheap beach stuff (if you are up for the haggling).

Boring
Mar 2018 • Solo
Small section of market stalls with owners not showing much interest. Also difficult to haggle to a fair price as the starting price is way too much anyway.

Fun Sunday night marker
Jan 2018 • Couples
This night market, opened on sundays at 5pm, is definitely a place to go. Around 2km or almost 1 mile long of little stands selling anything from delicious foods or toys, clothes, jewelry galore. Bargain if you can for the souvenirs, but really the highlight of this market is the food. Spicy Thai sausages grilled fresh, mouth watering papaya salad, and of course this tea with grass jelly. I recommend going here and you can easily lose yourself for 3 hours.
