So sad
Sep 2020 • Friends
I've known Marble Beach for many years. It used to be pristine, black and white stones in a wonderful setting. Now, the stony beach is grey with the detritus of thousand boats spewing oil, and the suncream of millions of tourists. Umbrellas and loungers cover the beach. My heart bleeds.

Quite a drive, but well worth it!
Aug 2020
The serpantine dirt road drive was quite an extreme experience. However, once you are on this beach, you feel like it was well worth it. The beach is just so beautiful and not too busy. The taverna is also extremely picturesque and delicious. An incredible day!

Unmissable

Out of the tourist guides, this beautiful beach is easily accessible by boats or water-taxis and it's really worth! Umbrellas are at a ridiculously low price. You can also swim inside and outside the natural caves. The most beautiful sea in all of Crete!

Worth the trek by boat
Sep 2019
There are two ways of accessing Marmara beach, hiking (about 6 km) or boat - 2 times daily. If hiking, about 2 km after passing Phoenix be prepared for a struggle; when the unpaved road that is quite interesting, passing a Aldi honey processing factory and several flocks/herds of sheep and goats, turns inland and you have to leave it to make your way to Marmara beach. That is when it gets tough, and although marked the route to the beach is a devil to follow. So much so that despite peering down from the cliff towards Marmara beach gave up and returned to Phoenix beach, which is just as nice. That said, the next day we got to Marmara beach by boat and thoroughly, so much so we went a second time.

Located at the mouth of the Aradena Gorge, the beach itself is not that big or glamorous, but there are plenty of loungers; it is easy to get into the warm sea and there are caves along the bottom of the cliffs that you can enjoy.
Most amazingly, despite the fact that access is by boat only the sole taverna is brilliant. Lovely food and great service whilst not charging the earth.
As nice as Loutro is, no matter how you get there spending the days on Marmara Beach is well worth the effort.

Best little beach and restaurant
Sep 2019 • Couples
We found this beach while coming back from Samaria by boat. It is the perfect hideaway make sure to book a table for lunch as it was always busy. The beach is only accessible by boat and there are plenty of water taxis available from Stakia or Loutro. Stay in Loutro after walking the Samaria gorge for a night

Turquoise waters

Quiet beach with nice and crystaline waters. You will be almost on your own, with the exception of some small boats and hikers passing by. Worth the nice hike.

Beautiful but compact

Fabulous beach with outstanding views and truly wonderful sea bathing with caves to explore and exquisitely clear, warm water. We walked there and back from Loutro. Not very well sign posted and steep descent to the beach itself which is not suitable for children, infirm or inexperienced walkers. Take the island ferries or a water taxi if in doubt. The walk from Loutro takes about 1 hour if you don’t lose the way. But, we loved the walk as time was on our side and the views are glorious as was the weather.
The beach is well managed with a friendly atmosphere but is limited by its size. Small drinks outlet on the beach itself with Taverna up above ( which we did not try but it was continually bust for the 6 hours we were there.)
Go once, don’t miss out on a super experience.

Marmara is one of the most beautiful beaches i have been to the last year.

You need a boat to take you there or if you are very adventurous you can even go on foot!

We took the boat which cost around 4 euros each wayand it takes 10 mins from Loutro.
The beach is small but the water is like you are in paradise.

And after all the swim and the sunbathing , you get hungry, there is an amazing restaurant there. There is only one restaurant anyway you cannot miss it!

We had steaks, fish, salads, chips, all great and incredibly fresh!

Lovely lovely place !I love Crete
