I have seen this lake many times over the years and have also done some reviews. This time however it was sad to see it so full of algae and neglected. Sin. Furthermore, the cost of the fishing permit is completely out of place considering the current conditions of the lake. I specify that I personally don't fish, it's just a note. 25 euros per day for a lake that I saw in very bad conditions..

Beautiful place, I was there in August for the first time with the family, I stayed a week at Fondo and this wonderful place was within walking distance of home. My husband and daughter fell in love with it. Beaten, well-marked trails easy to walk. The waterfall something amazing. Recommended

Very suggestive lake, with the right light it really looks emerald!
You can go around its perimeter with a nice walk.
It can be reached via a short path that starts from the center of Fondo.
Various paths start from the lake and enter the woods.
Beautiful atmosphere!

Once on the lake "Lago Smeraldo" find the path to the gorge and the waterfalls, by a fair day ideal for a picnic down there where nature is KIng !
It is free.....unthinkable! while we had to pay elsewhere (Ex. Vintgar Slovenia) for a less attractive place.
If you are in the region don't miss it; also many cheese factories around that area.

the lake was mostly covered in snow and ice when we were there. but we walked along the sunny side of the lake where the snow had melted and did walk the shady side until the snow got too deep. there is a very nice cafe by the lake ,where we drank tea and ate ice creams sitting outside in the sunshine.

A friend who lives there took me to that green emerald valley walk that ends at the lake. Incredibly beautiful. Also to the pastry shop. Got a huge apple strudel.

After a lovely walk through the canyon you climb the steps to discover this lovely lake to walk round and finish up at the pizzeria to enjoy a drink and a pizza

This was a beautiful place in the snow this February and well worth the walk from our hotel in Fondo. The adjoining rocky gorge with its frozen waterfalls and old mill building was a delight to visit.
