This was a beautiful place in the snow this February and well worth the walk from our hotel in Fondo. The adjoining rocky gorge with its frozen waterfalls and old mill building was a delight to visit.

We have only ever seen the lake frozen and to be honest that's good enough for me! From the time you climb the steps from canyon rio sas, past the waterfall, you just have to say WOW when you see the lake. Last time we were here in February 13 there was about a foot of snow all round the lake and words couldn't describe the beauty of such a sight, this time however, the snow had all but melted but the view was still spectacular. The lake is quite large, but you can walk around it in about an hour if you stroll. One side has a road and proper pathway, but the other sides are woodland walks. The lake was still well frozen and had been used for ice skating and hockey during the winter which was nice to see the locals use it. Walking is easy around the lake with good paths and a flat ground to walk on. There are plenty of benches for you to sit and simply enjoy the views but there are also restaurants at both ends if you want refreshments. There is a road access to the lake from fondo if you don't fancy walking through the canyon but for us the two go together
