Head west to the stunning Snaefellsnes peninsula on a full-day tour from Reykjavik. The excursion is a guaranteed hit with photographers, aspiring geologists, and anyone who loves a good folktale. We made a quick stop here for 15 minutes: walking to the top (easy), taking a few pictures, looking at the view. Very pretty short stop in the middle of nowhere.

Well made metal sturdy staircase to the top. It is an easy climb. Once up there, the views of the peninsula is great! The crater itself is not filled with water of anything, so it is not as glorious of a view as Kerid crater. Nevertheless, if you are in the Snaefellsness area, this is worth a visit. The drive to the Parking lot is gravel road.

The crater itself is just alright, I much prefer the Kerid Crater over this, but the view from top is quite nice.

I really enjoyed the climbed up Saxholl Crater at the end of a long day. What I probably enjoyed the most were the modern and organized step structure created to climbed the mountain. This made for some nice and fun photos while ascending the steps. Once we climbed to the top the view was 'ok' but not spectacular. And there crater wasn't much to look at either. Nonetheless, we are glad we made the climb to the top and would recommend it if nothing else for the fun and exercise of the climb.

What should have been an easy walk up was a crazy workout for us on a windy rainy day. It didn't seem like a big deal but there are no rails to hold on to and that wind just picked up stronger and stronger as we were going up. So just take that into consideration if the weather gets crazy. However the view at the top was still worth the climb.
