Insane amazing experience
Sep 2021 • Friends
We booked this horse riding tour last minute and have definitely no regrets. The staff was amazing, horses were so sweet and trained well and the ride was more than beautiful. Would recommend this for everyone even if you have not that much riding experience, they find a horse that suits you!! You really feel and see those people live for the horses and that is amazing! We absolutely loved it!!!

Special thanks to Ziggy who was an amazing guide!!

Beautiful ride, friendly guides, amazing horses
Sep 2021 • Friends
We had a wonderful time at Stori Kambur… the horses were amazing, the guides were friendly, and the scenery was beautiful. The 1 hour ride was perfect for our group. To be clear, we are not expert horseback riders. We got some time before the ride to get to know our horse, and they are so mellow and easy going. The guides were happy to talk about the Icelandic horse and the business… it was clear these horses are well taken care of and loved. I would recommend them to anyone interested in seeing some Icelandic countryside and meeting these beautiful horses. You do not need to be an experienced rider to enjoy this activity.

Poor communication last minute cancel
Sep 2021 • Friends
Booked two hour tour on 9/13/21 one week in advance. Drove their from Reykjavik arrived to find they cancelled my horse ride one hour prior due to weather. Weather was fine cloudy but nothing to cancel trip. We were very disappointed with this level of service. Not impressed with this so called family business. Avoid this company move on to others in the area. Plenty of good horse riding companies in the area.

Enchanted
Aug 2021
Kim was an absolute joy of a guide! We arrived early unsure if the tour would be able to happen as the weather was stormy earlier in the day, but it cleared up just in time for our tour. We were greeted by a sweet puppy and Kim, who was professional and precise in pairing us with the horses that would meet us at our level of experience.

Since it was stormy that morning, it ended up just being the three of us which made for an incredible trip towards the sea and through some stretches of rainwater that had pooled up by the shoreline. We got to learn more about the Icelandic horse, the personality of some of the 100+ horses on the farm, and experienced beautiful views, conversation and fuzzy friends.

Kim was so lovely to speak to and created a great experience for the three of us, answered all our questions, and made us feel like we found a new friend in Iceland! Thanks for everything xx

A disappointment
Aug 2021 • Family
A disappointment.

The weather was very poor which obviously didn’t help the situation, but the guides seemed more annoyed about the weather then we did, especially one guide seemed annoyed by having to do a tour. In perspective we paid to go riding in this weather, they get paid to ride in this weather. If I have to be completely honest I would rather have had them cancel then have them be in such a bad mood.

We didn’t get a briefing, we couldn’t find anywhere that you had to be there earlier then the tour start time. We got there almost an hour early and just sat in our car, so if there was a briefing before the tour start time they could just have knocked on our car window - like another guide had previously done just to say hi.
5 minutes before the start time we get out of the car and just told to get a helmet and hurry up.
All of this was a little frustrating it felt very rushed and like we were in the way, they didn’t make you very comfortable and one person in our group opted out - in all fairness she was a little nervous, but the negative guides definitely didn’t help. Their was very little to no guidance on how to ride the horse, which seems unfair to us and the horses.

They let you borrow rain boots… they didn’t tell us until after the tour, when we said our shoes were wet - I mean soaked, you will ride through a deep stream, so borrow some wellies. Luckily we brought extra shoes and it was the end of our trip, it would have had consequences had it been the beginning of our trip.

All that being said it’s a beautiful place to go riding on Icelandic horses - it gets two stars for the beautiful location.

Also a slightly weird side note, they tell you to go inside and have a finishing group briefing after the tour, it’s very awkward and they don’t say anything. I think the guides were too young and inexperienced, and it’s tough competition on this beautiful island, all the other guides on our trip have been amazing!

Best horseback experience
Jul 2021 • Couples
Have gone horseback riding many times over the years, by far this was my most enjoyable experience. The host was very friendly and knowledgeable on many topics, willing to explain and answer any questions. He was genuinely concerned to make our ride as comfortable and fun as possible. We were especially impressed with the way he coached a young girl's first time riding, she was very nervous and he worked with her throughout the entire ride. Handled in a different manner and she most likely would never have ridden again, but by the end of the ride she showed a huge improvement in her confidence and comfort level.

Absolutely wonderful horse riding adventure. The hosts were friend and super helpful. Our kids (ages 9 & 11) are beginner riders and they loved this experience! Thank you so much. Cheers.

Great tour in a beautiful landscape!
Oct 2019 • Family
This was a really lovely riding tour! We booked the tour beforehand, but there also were some people who showed up at the farm and joined the tour. Very nice guide who adjusted the riding level for the group, and he shared interesting history of the area and Iceland in general. The horses were very calm and easy to ride, and we got to try the tölt! The scenery was fantastic and we highly recommend Stori Kambur!

Best place to ride Icelandic horses!
Aug 2019 • Family
I can’t claim to have ridden at other venues, but I still think Stori Kambur has to be the best place in the country to ride Icelandic horses. The staff are very friendly and welcoming, and are clearly passionate about the horses. The horses are beautiful and obviously well cared for - with large pastures and a single ride maximum per day. The ride itself is beautiful - through a meadow, along the beach, and even through a small channel of water. The scenery is spectacular with the mountains as our backdrop and sea cliffs in view. We were able to tolt, the famous 5th gear of the Icelandic horse. A really fun experience and definitely a highlight of our trip.

Amazing ride through Icelandic countryside!
Sep 2019
My boyfriend and I booked a one hour ride with Stori Kambur and enjoyed every minute! We crossed the lagoon on horseback and rode down the beach with views of waterfalls and snow capped peaks. Their horses are extremely well-behaved and friendly! I've ridden my whole life and still thoroughly enjoyed this experience! Our guide was great and we loved it despite the wind.
