When Iceland you need a horse

Well, if you like horses it a great place to ride and this is perhaps one of the best. Horses abound on the peninsula and this location has many and you can do short or longer... read more

Our dream came true when we got to do gallopping on the beach of Atlantic ocean. At Lysuholl we felt safe all the time. The guide (great and positive German girl) really understood what we wanted and she was so happy to do what was best for us. 1,5 hours ride was just perfect and we will definately come back.... The stables do use "stable hands and instructors" for the summer. You need to be very clear when booking what your requirements and ability is so that they can pair you up correctly. The group that we were in was excellent. The leader during the ride even swapped horses round as it became clear which ones suited the riders better... More

I spend a week at Lysuholl with the, so called, "Long Tour". We had a big cottage with two bathrooms, 3 bedrooms, a kitchen and a great view of the glacier. We had a big breakfast buffet everyday and the opportunity to take something for the ride. In the evening there was a three course menu which was well-cooked. We... More

We paid over US$ 200 per person for a 4-hour "day ride" at Lysuholl. Two very young German interns (20 years old, perhaps) took us on the tour. We plodded in single file through some lava fields then spent some time on the beach. The guides were awfully inexperienced and simply didn't have the vocabulary in English to explain to... More

I am giving this place 5 stars because they fit 2 of us in at the last minute (literally with less than an hour's notice) and did the same for a family of 4 that rode with us! This horse farm is not easily found with google maps but is about 10 min west of what google maps thinks, so... More

My husband and I signed up for 3 hour horse ride on the beach. This is a family owned business. The horses and equipment were very well maintained with good facilities. Unfortunately, the ride I chose did not match my skill level. I'm a beginner rider and have never trotted on the horse. The tour involved trotting on the beach.... More

Great two hour ride on the beach with fast gallop and tölt. We are two experienced riders wanting more adrenalin than previous tour riding we've tried on Iceland and were positively surprised by Lysuholl.

The sure-footed smooth-gaited Icelandic horses are fun to ride. As an experienced rider, I especially enjoyed seeing how these remarkable animals manoeuvred the rugged trail crossing lava fields. The rock formations were amazing, and our guide showed us a natural craggy cave which had been adapted to create a crude hut long ago. We dismounted to go down into it... More

Four of us took a 2 hour ride at low tide. 2 great dutch guides who were very chatty and friendly. I have only been on a horse 3 times so appreciated the opportunity to canter whilst my very experienced wife managed to go off for a gallop whilst we all trotted off in the other direction Stunning views. Would... More
