About
Canale di Tenno is an obligatory stop for those who desire to immerse themselves in the magic of a place of the past, where you breathe history, art and culture. The village, entrenched on a mountain slope halfway between Lake Garda and the Alps, has recently been included in the list of the most beautiful villages in Italy: note the narrow paved alleys, arcades, small internal squares, the houses set one against the other like in the ancient villages of the 13 century. The village was abandoned after the war, but lived again in the sixties thanks to a lively artistic and cultural scene. The Casa degli Artisti (Home of the Artists), dedicated to the painter Giacomo Vittone, is found here and is a residence and meeting place for artists from all of Europe. From the 428 metres of Canale you can admire the splendid Lake Garda, and the imposing mountains behind, or you can reach Lake Tenno, one of the cleanest stretch of water in Trentino, characterized by its intense turquoise colour and small islet.

An ancient village very well preserved and valued by those who live there. A walk with a sense of peace and beauty.

Certainly looks old in the main part. Worth walking round for a look. Maybe worth parking here where it is free and then walking down to Tenno lake where it is €1.50 an hour.

this lovely village is quite pretty, but there is virtually nothing to do, apart from looking. A few more explanation signs would be welcome, especially when road signs indicate that is has been voted most beautiful village in Italy.

Beautiful, well preserved medieval village north of Lake Garda. The village is easily reachable on foot from a small car park outside the village.

This is such a cute little village to visit. The buildings are so cool, and many of them are still being lived in. There are a few shops in the village, including an art gallery, a bed & breakfast & restaurant. You can wander through the village and after walking through it can have a great view of Lake Garda.

What an amazing, small and picturesque village.Great for a little walk, visiting little museums of local artists .
There is only 1 small bar , where you can sit in the square for a nice relaxing drink.
the place seems unreal.
Fantastic.

This little treasure is so worth the visit and it lets you dip into a complete different world and time.
Its a small medieval village and charming from the first to the last step.
From the back parking lot of Lake Tenno we had a walk of about 10-15 mins to the village and even it was quite busy at lake Tenno, only a few tourists visited the medieval village which made it a peaceful place.
I highly recommend this unique treasure

My husband and I drove to this village from Garda where we were staying. The drive was easy and the village fairly easy to find. We stopped for a drink in a lovely little bar (the name of which escapes me I'm afraid) but the young lady owner was most charming. The village is magical and seems to be from another world. If I return to Lake Garda one day then I would be sure to re-visit this beautiful village.

Nice medieval village with great views to the Lake Garda and Alps. It was once abandoned, but now is carefully restored. The visit is free, and there are several small free parkings on the road around the village. You can spend 15 minutes walking around, and then take a trail to Lago di Tenno. Note that there are no real restaurants inside, so plan accordingly.

We would like to go here from Riva, along with a trip to the Varone waterfalls. Is there a bus route that we could use to do both as a combined outing? Thank you

I dont know if the bus stops near the lake. But the taxi costs 35€ one way. It takes 35min to drive to the lake/ borgo medievale di canale. It takes 10-20min to walk between the lake and the medievale town. Both of them is a "must see " :)

Might be driving here from Riva Del Garda with around 10 cars, would there be a place to park?

There is a designated car park just as you arrive to the village which could take 10 cars plus if you got there early on in the day. If you arrived later you may need to also use the alternative car park a little further on the incline up the road. This is used by some coaches and the entrance is then through the back of the village as opposed to the main entrance. It is a small village so either way would work. Enjoy your visit.

Accoglienza familiare ... buona pappa ... buon prezzo!
