We had a fantastic day out with Elton our captain
Boat could use a little TLC but hey I have to criticise something!! But Totally seaworthy and safety conscious
Truly a must for those who like a 1on 1 excursion
The cost of the booking is I think for up to max 4 but just for your party. Nobody else. Bliss
We fished and caught loadsa fish
We went back to a uninhabited island and while Elton set out to bbq our fish while we snorkelled and enjoyed beach combing
The fish was delicious and perfectly cooked
This trip had to be the highlight of our holiday. Thank you for a perfect and memorable day in paradise

Had a great fishing trip catching more than 20 fish then snorkel at Sal Rei reef, then finished off with a beach barbecue on the beach on Sal Rei island. The fish we caught tasted great. I highly recommend this day out.

This is a very late review but I hope it helps. The brothers that run this trip are amazing gentlemen. My partner and I were on our first trip to Cape Verde. We saw the fishing trip and thought it would be an ideal activity. It was and we were so happy we booked.
We were chauffeured to a point to meet the boat, taught how to fish in the initial stage, and then let free (with guidance of course) to fish. We were complete newbies.
Caught many fish which was exhilarating (side note: if you have wrist issues, wear some wrist support) - and we were able to eat the fish caught at a BBQ made by the brothers - we saw one cleaning and gutting the fish that we very much enjoyed eating when we were on shore. They marinated the fish so simply but it was ever so tasty and there were salad items homemade to accompany the fish. It was perfect. A couple of soft drinks or beers plus some time to walk the area, see the historical sights and then home time.
Definetly a great way to spend a day or half a day - great hospitality. If we visit Boa Vista again, we will definitely rebook. Thank you again.

We visited Boa Vista in December 21 and wanted to book a fishing trip in Bellavista we have fished all over the world and I have never had such a dangerous frightening experience as we did on this trip.
Our first trip was cancelled due to bad weather & was rebooked for the following day. when we got up we felt that the weather was the same conditions as the day before but trusted the organiser/ captain knew the conditions & would not put us at risk.
We were told on arrival that the previous days trip had been cancelled as the weather conditions were really bad and that it would’ve taken us two hours to return from the fishing grounds in dangerous conditions.
We boarded the boat with two crew members after paying the owner at the shore and we left to go fishing on the way out to the fishing grounds the captain was obviously not paying attention as he nearly hit a boat and the other crew member had to grab the wheel to avoid a collision this was the start of our trip.
We were taken to the fishing grounds by the crew and circled around locals who were hand line fishing for tuna, we moved on when the locals started shouting at our captain in anger.
The crew then decided they were going to take us to Jig the conditions were un-fishable as you couldn’t even stand.
The crew had hardly any interaction with us throughout the trip but the worst was yet to come.
One of the crew handed my husband a rod to jig with but he could hardly stand up due to the worsening conditions of the sea.
I was never offered a rod even if I had been I would not have been able to fish as I couldn’t even stand as it was so rough.
The other jigging rod was used by the crew and after about 30 minutes the lure got snagged, the crew then spent about 30 minutes trying to release the snag.
We started our horrendous journey back and I & my husband have never feared for our lives before until this trip, the sea conditions were the worst I have ever seen and we took over 2.30 hours to get back to shore.
We were travelling along the shoreline from our left side hitting the boat was between 20 and 30 foot swells of sea the crew never once asked us if we were okay they didn’t even turn around as we were sitting behind them we have never been so frightened and taken on such a dangerous trip in these conditions the trip never should’ve gone ahead.
We were sat at the back of the boat on a wooden bench with no cushions fearing for our lives.
This boat is not suitable for any type of deep sea fishing it has no chair to play the fish it has no toilets and it wasn’t until we returned to our hotel we realised we had no lifejackets either.
When we return to our hotel we were in shock as there was a real possibility we could have been injured or worse on this trip due to the captain and the owner making the decision to take us out in treacherous conditions.
The owner had previously stated he’d cancelled the previous day as it would’ve taken two hours to return but he then took us out the following day and it took over 2 1/2 hours to return.
The following day our rep contacted the owner and requested a refund of half the cost as we are not I’m unreasonable and understand that the boat has been used the crew have been supplied and fuel has been used he agreed to the refund.
My reason for leaving this review is that If the owner/captain continues to take people out in such terrible conditions there is going to be an accident and so my conscience is clear I would not recommend this trip to anybody

Thank you for your extensive review on Tripadvisor.
It sounds you had quite a frightening experience and we are very sorry for that.
This Tripadvisor page is about BBQ, Snorkle and Fish which takes place in the bay of Sal Rei at 5-10 minutes
from the Sal Rei city pier. The review you wrote is about a Big Game trip; fishing for Tuna on the open ocean.
We do Big Games at Boat Trips and Fishing and, in doing so, we have the most stringent safety measures of Cabo Verde.
- We do not sail when wind is predicted to exceed 14 knots or when a swell above 6,5 feet is foreseen.
- Our boat has proven itself during rescue and other operations at 24 knots, so in this way we always maintain a safe margin.
- We always have life jackets on board and the boat is equipped with 2 marine radios and a spare motor.
- Together, our captains have more than 50 years of fishing experience and follow weather predictions on a daily basis.
They would never go out when conditions are not safe and have proven so in the past when you look at other Trip Advisor reviews.
The safety of our passengers is our number one priority and we would never ever endanger them.
It is to your credit that you want to warn people and that gives me the opportunity explain about Big Game fishing on the Atlantic Ocean around Boa Vista.
The Atlantic ocean around Boa Vista and Sal is never calm with always, at a minimum, a 3 ft swell.
At 14 knots this increases to about 5-6 feet. On your fishing day, December 15th, the wind was between 12 and 14 knots.
Swells of 20-30 ft, as high as a three store building, as you say in your review, are rare in open water and only occur at Beaufort 8 and above.
Cape Verdian fishermen, who know weather and sea conditions like the back of their hand, would never go out under these conditions.
The reason why you were encountering them, some of them from over 100 miles away, in their small boats on the fishing grounds means that they considered it perfectly safe to fish.
There are different choices of boats that do Big Games around here.
There are the small Cape Verdean fishing boats, the ones you see on all the pictures. These are mainly used by the Cape Verdean fishermen.
There is our 6,5 ft boat which is a step bigger with more room for passengers. We have done over 100 Big Game trips with this boat since 2018. The boat is a private hire which means that you are always in full control of what you want to do.
And there are the luxury boats with toilets, bars and fishing chairs which come at prices double as ours or more.
We are always fully transparent of our boat, which can be seen on our website btfboavista.com and, in case of another expectation with regard to the boat, passengers can cancel their trip for free.
Your remarks about our captains, that showed little empathy during your trip, are taken very seriously and we will make sure that that will not happen again.
Big Game fishing is an adventurous trip which means you experience unexpected things (that why it is an adventure).
You obviously had a bad experience, hence the refund, and we sincerely apologize for that.

Aditon the skipper was a true professional how he sailed through the rough sea was amazing , his deck hand was first class , we trolled for an hour before I got a massive wahoo .

We didn’t actually get to go as we were unfortunate with the weather and this company wanted us to be safe. However, they kept in touch the whole week, were friendly and efficient and issued a refund without delay - would highly recommend!

I was very sad that you couldn't go on the tour, but safety always comes first, but I believe we will still meet next year, who knows, have a nice day!!!

Fishing was great we caught a half a bucket of fish in a matter of a couple hours. Snorkeling in a good location and finally bbg fish was really fresh and delicious.

This was our first time fishing and it was brilliant day out. We caught about 30 fish between us 4 and then they cooked it on beautiful beach n some beers and swim in the sea . Well worth a try for something different.

Great fun. First time fishing and the two guys were really good teaching us what to do. Caught quite a few fish and finished off with a bbq on the beach. A great trip out.
