One of the best Spanish writers of the 20th century Miguel de Unamuno spent a long time on the island of Gran Canaria
When an ancient name and aboriginal settlement arrived in the town of Artenara, he found a spectacular landscape where he admired the beauty of the island and its mountainous formations originated in the volcanoes.
From this place where its balcony is today I call the landscape that saw a petrified storm, because from here you can see how the ancient volcano expelled its ashes and lava and they were frozen in mountains
There are different viewpoints and balconies, not only one is worth visiting all of them, the town is not very big and also has a church and a hermitage in a cave that are also worth a visit
At the end of the town going up a small hill there is a bar-restaurant which is accessed through the mountain and from which I recommend having a snack contemplating the views for the last time before continuing on our way

The village offers several spots for great views of the surrounding mountains and land below, with the road where the Mirador view point is offering the best views of Roque Bentayga and Roque Nublo. Enjoy the village which has a couple of small restaurants and some free parking. Mirador La Esquina which sits next to the small family restaurant of La Esquina, where we enjoyed a small simple lunch, offers the same views as Mirador de Unamono, with more space to stand.

Mirador de Unamuno is one of the some lookouts located in the highest town in Gran Canaria Island, which is called Artenara. From this town you can see wonderful views of the rock volcanic formations of the center of the island, especially Bentayga Rock and Nublo Rock, two sacred rocks for pre-hispanic inhabitants. Also, in this lookout there is a statue of the well-known Miguel de Unamuno, a spanish writer and philosopher of 98 generation (at the beginning of 20th Century). A place to see great views, relax and think about the world.

Charming little mirador with some explanations about the surroundings. Nothing special but you almost mandatorily walk by while in the village
