As we stay for seven days at the hotel next door, I take walks by the river nearly every morning. It's a place of great beauty. It's the rainy season, and the roar of the white waters is spectacular. The walking path runs for quite a distance, is mostly more than a metre wide, narrowing in parts and branching off to the water's edge, and, sadly, is strewn with trash discarded by picnickers. In fact, at some places where they congregate, the air is putrid from rotting food, and the plastic containers and wrappers are breeding ground for mosquitoes. (I believe the mosquito nuisance and hazard can be considerably reduced if littering stops.) On several mornings, I have collected 10kg of trash.
A kiosk provides refreshment and hires out a sound system which I imagine is used by holiday makers for karaoke.
Beside the resort, a restaurant hires out picnicking spaces for VND100,000. The owners keep the space clean although they can set an example or admonish customers to bring home their trash. I notice that at the furthest waterfall upstream (with a sign in Vietnamese saying Start of Waterfall), a concrete rubbish bin is provided, which is filled to the brim. (It's usually not a good practice to provide bins.)
According to Google Map, the walking trail runs for about 2.5km, but it's more likely that the undergrowth has covered the path after 1km. That's a pity, as this is a really beautiful part of the forest - and so accessible - to explore.
Minus the sight of rubbish, and with a longer walking trail, I will rate this attraction six stars!

This could be a very attractive place to visit and may even be stunning. However, the litter strewn trail up to it is very disappointing, why chuck plastic bottles, face masks, shoes, cans etc on the ground? There are litter bins around that are just left to overflow. Take your litter home or dispose when you get back down in a bin.
You can just about swim in the odd spot a great way to cool down but everything let down by the amount of litter. It looked like a plastic bottle & tin can recycling ctr at the top!

I have to leave a review, it's because of the decent reviews I went to this stream. First, if you go by moped or bicycle, get really good directions. The street signs are hard to read when you are navigating traffic and sometimes non existent.
I used the tourist map that you receive from your hotel.
MISTAKE #1: Get directions--for the love of god--so that you aren't driving around for 3 hours because it's only a 20 minute drive from Duong Dong area.
MISTAKE #2: You don't need to go during this time of year, perhaps when it's the rainy season there is more water.
MISTAKE #3: Don't leave your country without learning some basic Vietnamese! Very important If you rent a moped, this woud have me saved 2 hours.
MISTAKE #4: Don't believe the hype on the map you are given or the description for the tour package that takes you here. This is not a water fall...okay, there are some ledges where water does fall like 1 foot, but that isn't a waterfall that one imagines. Trickling Water stream is a better description than waterfall at least in the dry season. Or maybe it's a literal translation that the water does fall.
***the dirt red road that takes you the stream (once off the main dirt red road) is very rocky in some areas, drive slow and you will be fine.****
So, after passing the main red dirt road from the street, for the 3rd time, I finally got the directions right and confirmed that the road I need to turn on to go to the illustrious stream was a 'red' road, (dirt roads are reddish in color on the island.) It's about 7 km down this road, then somewhere you make a right turn, there is a sign with pictures of fish, either for sale or to fish? I didn't understand it. Don't worry if you miss the right turn, because the main road that you are on ends and there is a little restaurant where you can ask for directions on how to get to Da Ban Stream.
Once on this dirt red road, you will see a bridge that says Suoi Da Ban spray painted on it, follow this rocky road. Then after 1 or 2 km, you will see a road on your left (also red dirt road) with an entrance sign that says Suoi Da Ban. Congratulations you have found it!
I finally arrive at the destination and take a short walk through the forest (very nice) and see litter everywhere, it's not a garbage dump, but it makes me sad to see the carelessness of just tossing out your cigaratte carton and beer cans on the trail.
The Da Ban water stream. Remember January is dry season. While it is a pretty place, smooth rock formations and pools of water, it's easy to walk here, but there is litter everywhere. There are local familes that come and picnic there and then leave their garbage.
On that day no one charged me anything to park or to enter. And the woman told me not to cross the rickety wooden bridge that is pictured here. I walked around on the smooth rock formation and found a trail head and followed it right. You will pass a food stall, you can get food here and she will bring it to you at the stream. I would post pix, but I accidentally deleted my mini flash card, :(
Coming here in the dry season will leave you disappointed but then you can learn how to embrace it, enjoy the beauty with the trash and don't take a dip in the one swimming hole,

When are the people of Vietnam waking up? When is the (local) Government going to do anything to educate people, and to invest in making sure that this beautiful Country of Vietnam will still have tourism in 20 years? If it will continue like this there will be nothing left for anybody to enjoy.
This place is pretty amazing but it is completely destroyed by litter and garbage. In some places the smell of human excrements and garbage is sickening. There are even people bringing up these horrible karaoke systems that kill the whole natural atmosphere with terrible loud music.
I know Tripadvisor is not a place for me to complain, but hey, it is so so sad. This could be a place of incredible peace and quiet with beautiful fresh water and people enjoying Mama Nature. It needs a very very serious change of management, a serious cleanup and park rangers that keep an eye on the visitors.

During dry season there isn't much to see. Except garbage. There is a ton of garbage everywhere and it made me really sad. More signage on the roads would be helpful, but fix your trash problem first!

My partner and I visited Da Ban stream a couple of days ago. There had been some rain so we figured it would be full and therefore worth going. But after a very long motorbike ride down a bumpy dirt road (approx. 30 mins), we were in for a massive disappointment. It definitely was full.... But not just of water. It was full of rubbish. And I mean FULL! Everywhere we looked there were plastic bags/wrappers, and it smelt like the rotting fish / prawn carcasses that people had left all over the place. It really is gross. We've been travelling through Vietnam for almost a month now and have been through most of SE Asia, so we know what the standards are like, but this is just on another level.
We found it disturbing that people can treat their environment like that, and it really upset us that what was clearly once a beautiful place is now destroyed. Unless a massive clean up is done, I can't see how it could ever be nice again.
It's truly upsetting. We would not recommend this place to anyone unless you fancy being an Eco-warrior and want to start a clean up yourself?!
So just save yourself the long journey and huge disappointment by going somewhere else instead- anywhere else will be better!

If you like swimming in a pool of water mixed with raw feces, empty chip packets, and leftover food particles while dogs fight each other and locals stare at you then this is the place for you. We visited on a Saturday in mid-November which is the beginning of the high season in Phu Quoc. We thought since it was early in the season this place wouldn't be trashed yet. Unfortunately the place was a wreck. I guess the custom is to bring your entire family (pets included) out for a nice picnic on the boulders on the stream. When you finish your food and drink you leave it all on the rocks or toss it into the water. It is a shame because this place was probably once fairly nice. Considering the entrance fee is more expensive than Suoi Tranh stream (13k vs 10k) and the trash I would head over to Suoi Tranh stream instead. At Suoi Tranh there is still trash but it isn't nearly as destroyed as this garbage dump.

As others have noted, trash strewn about is an unfortunate situation in many parts of Vietnam (and other countries as well). I have seen worse filth and disregard for our environment in Seattle and New York left behind by the "Occupy" crowds. I am also old enough to remember a time in the US when it was common place to throw garbage out ones car window, but fortunately the times changed over the years and people are more environmentally friendly. So, I also hope the Vietnamese people will also learn to be better stewards of their beautiful country. That being said, the trail along Da Ban Stream is an easy walk, and the stream has numerous spots with small rapids cascading down large rocks to wade in, sit down, soak, and let the cool water run over your body on a hot day. On weekends many Vietnamese families find a spot along the stream and picnic. If you are lucky, a family might invite you to join them. Of course conversation is usually limited unless you speak Vietnamese, but even "please" and "thank you" go a long way. Children of all ages climb among the rocks and relax in the stream. This is a great place to take children for a change of venue from the beaches. The stream itself is very picturesque in the right conditions. The road to the stream is dirt, so can be especially challenging after a heavy rain, but is still manageable.

When local people starts caring for the enviroment and discovers all the treasures located in front of them hopefully they will start too clean up all the trash in Nature.
This place was like a fairytale until you look Down and find plastic containers, bags, leftovers, etc. You would think a party had just finished at this location. But sadly this is not the explanation!
Also we visited at the end of dry season, so there was almost no water. Water or not - it could have been great if not so polluted...

This is a total ecological disaster thanks to the careless attitude of the locals. Full of trash as of February 2017. I couldn't walk 5 meters without trash: plastic bags, rest of food, cans, bottles, masks. The Vietnamese government should do smth to educate their people to care more about their beautiful natural spots. More trash means less tourists and less money, do you see the logic? I have attached 2 pictures. The first one is a fun bridge, probably the only interesting to see at this spot. The 2nd one is the only picture of the waterfall I took because there was trash everywhere else otherwise.
