I decided to stop by Sim Son while driving back to my hotel. There really isn't much to see in the garden out back, and the rose myrtle (sim) trees weren't much to look at either. All the signs are in Vietnamese. The highlight is the samples of sim wine in front. I wanted to buy a flask sized to bottle to drink, as it was my last day in Phu Quoc and I only had carry-on luggage on my flight back to Saigon, but unfortunately all they carried were larger sized bottles.…

Never heard of this type of wine until we visited Phu Quoc Island, and it's their specialty. As part of the tour itinerary, we went to Sim Son, where you can taste test different types of sim wine...from light alcohol content (16% approx) to higher (40%). Unfortunately, we ended up buying the wrong one (bought sim syrup instead of sim wine 'cos labels were hard to read). We wanted to buy the smaller bottles for easier packing, but did not realize it was the sim "syrup" instead of sim "wine"...so read the labels carefully! Good thing, it's still from the same ingredient, just sweeter, so have to dilute the syrup with more ice and lime juice...overall, still a great drink!…

The first we had tasted very much like a sherry the last like a great thick syrup that would be excellent on ice cream .Its near the airport...try it out.…
