Because the guide Ulysse had awarded 3 stars to this garden and because the description given on the visitbarbados website made me really want to visit it, I went there on February 28 with my partner. and a friend. What has happened since these glowing comments were posted? We discovered an abandoned garden, not maintained, with thirsty and withered plants, shelters for orchids whose doors were difficult to open and which only contained dead plants, etc. Only the last shelter contained 10, 12 orchids still alive and a few bromelias. A desaster! And to think that we paid US$15 each, not including transport, to visit this garden which is not even worth the trip. We requested a refund at the end of the tour and were unsuccessful. I do not recommend visiting this garden, you will waste time and money. Instead, visit Hunte's Gardens, a garden lovingly maintained by its owner.

Lovely gardens to walk around, with beautiful flowers, shrubs and of course orchids.
It was a bit showery when we arrived but were kindly offered umbrellas to keep the rain off.
There is a nice shop and café where we had a rum punch.
Worth a visit.

We went on a day that saw us having to use our brollies a couple of times. This didn’t dampen our enjoyment as we meandered through the beautiful gardens. Barbados has several beautiful gardens, and this is one that should be on your list, especially if orchids are your thing. There is a cafe and shop with plenty of parking. Well worth a visit regardless of the weather.

Beautiful peaceful and full of inspiration and interesting plants trees flowers. Beautiful view points. I loved it lots of gorgeous photo opportunities. The gift shop tea room was charming and delightful. We had coffee on the terrace in beautiful hand made pottery. I could have stayed longer what a little treasure of a place. Sun tours allowed us time to amble and enjoy.

Orchid world has an unusual walking path, lined with wire fences where mostly Vanda varieties of orchids in a multitude of colors are grown directly on low, open air fences. I have never seen fences of orchids before - truly beautiful! Continuing on, shaded shelters are home to orchids unable to take the direct Barbados sun and filled with a variety of hanging baskets and pots of fragrant Oncidiums.
For an orchid lover it is grand to see so many varieties. For the flower lover or general garden enthusiast, it is a wonderful introduction to the diversity of orchids as well as the many ways and conditions under which orchids can be grown.

Took one of the local taxis to visit Orchid World whilst on our cruise. Lovely setting, but somewhat run down in places and at $12.50 per head would expect a better kept garden with more orchids than they had. Disappointing!

This is pricey for what you get. 25US dollars a head.. No guide book, no guides and labels on most plants illegible. Those flowers in bloom were stunning, but a lot seemed to be past their best.
The walk about took at most 30 mins, but with info might have been longer.
The usual gift shop and bar. All prices in US dollars, probably as they get lots of US tourists off the cruise ships
We would have loved to have bought a plant for our rented house, but they do not appear to sell.

We picked up a leaflet of orchid world when visiting Barbados on a cruise. This promoted 30,000 orchids and appeared worth while visiting. It was very disappointing. Few orchids in flower. Took little time to walk around. The most expensive gardens visited from our cruise, the most disappointing too. Does not live up to the advertisments. I have seen more orchids in flower in a supermarket! A complete rip off.

Dear Sir. Thank you for your comment. We are so sorry that you had a bad experience at Orchid World as many thousands of people visit us each year and fall in love with our product - guests are encouraged to make comments in our guest book and the hundreds of complementray comments are a testament to that. There are over 30,000 Orchid varieties in the World and at Orchid World we have close to 5,000 Orchids. Obviously all are not able to flower at the same time as a garden is always 'work in progress'. During March we had a good showing and our garden team try hard everyday to ensure that the many varieties that we have are on display. Our Orchids grow in the natural enviornment. In addition we have added a wide range of Caribbean plants and flowers which we have sign posted in the garden. In the last few years we have increased the variety of plants, ferns and of course added to our range of Orchids. We charge a competitive fee to all of the gardens in Barbados and I am not sure where you purchased your ticket but if there was an Island tour included this would be higher overall price. Comments like yours encourage us to improve our wonderful product for the many many guests that enjoy it.. Thank you. Martin Ince - Owner & CEO - Orchid World, Barbados.

This attraction has signage all over the country directing people to the location. After paying admission, you go through a path that takes less than thirty minutes with very few orchids blooming. Yes, there are orchids there, but very few blooming. There are approximately three sheds where the orchids are hanging, but not much to see. Along the short path, you will find other vegetation that is very common to not just tropical regions, but which you may also see anywhere in the world. The most memorable vegetation is what is commonly called in the U.S. moneywort, dollarwort, or pennywort which, depending on the person, is considered a weed or a ground cover. Go to your local gardening center such as Home Depot if you want to see more blooms, and yes, even orchrids. Save your money and do your tour at your local garden center. DO NOT be misguided by the beautiful pictures on their website which advertises over 20,000 orchids and varieties of orchids. You will be sorely disappointed if you are into this.

Dear traveller 5686. Thank you for your review. We are disappointed that you did not enjoy your experience at Orchid World. Our staff and our garden teams normally get such excellent reviews on our product. . Our 6 acres of gardens and our Orchids are grown in very natural conditions. We use very few enhancers and we have tried to have as wide a range of different Orchids as possible. You will find at Orchid World hundreds of different types of Orchids - thousands in total but many many diferent varieties. We are always work in progress and you will never see all of the Orchids in bloom. Just FYI in the Orchid displays in large shops are orchids that have been temperature controlled grown and blasted with various gasses in the evening to enhance appearance and growth. Our product grows in the natural enviornment. We are proud of that. Please revisit us when you come back as we are continually improving the Orchid and Garden product. Thank you. Martin Ince. Proud Owner . Orchid World.

I grow orchids at home so this was a MUST do ! Dont know what I expected but it was just beautiful. Set on a hillside with paths everywhere were orchids were growing outside just fixed onto wire fencing. But then there were the orchid houses, these are houses made of fine netting to let the air through. The orchids were magnificent and beautiful colours. For anyone who likes flowers this is a great trip and if you are an Orchid lover this is a MUST.
