Went visiting rather than another day on a beach.
The entrance fee is 12 BBD and it will take you 15 minutes at a slow pace to read the literature and take in the views.
We strung it out and had a coffee, as it started to rain.
Views were limited due to the cloudy weather and would have been better if it was sunny.
This is a stop off place for cruise tours and is OK if you have 15 minutes to spare.

We enjoyed this part of the tour from our cruise ship mostly for the Monkeys and Flowers. It was a small location to view the signal station and learn why it was there. Amazing and breathing views! We had a beautiful sunny day. Our tour guide was awesome and answered all our questions and knew so much information about that area. We really learned a lot. We didn't buy anything from the small cafe but they had nice seating in the area and music playing as well.

On site parking and B$12 entry charge. Greats views with self guided walk to historical Signal Tower and panorama deck. Interesting historical info boards. Lion approached from looped road below. Small cafe and covered seating. We only took about 1/2 hour.

We stopped by here briefly on a tour of the island. It is a small building on the top of a hill with a canon. It gives a wide view of the island below. Worth a quick stop for the view. Also has a refreshment stand but it was closed when we were there.

Arrived at the Gun Hill station mid morning as 2 car loads left…
Enjoyed the whole thing in quiet splendour. The 2 staff members we met were lovely and very helpful. It’s an incredible outlook over the whole island as was its original purpose. It’s a small but important historic site. Despite this we found lots of interesting & unexpected information.
The views are spectacular!
I can see it as a fantastic wedding venue with a lovely open sided, but covered, banquet area with view !
The coffee options are the best we found on the island!
We returned the next day for our cappuccino & macchiato en route to our next tourist destination.

Gun Hill Signal station is on the top of a hill which gives you a good view of bridgetown and the cruise ship terminal. Aside from that I don't see why you would go here and pay 5US (maybe use the bathroom?)
The papers inside that describe what it was used for are falling apart. There are a few canons. The lion is actually not in the signal station but around the bend after the station. If you have seen any type of fort anywhere in the america's you can skip this.
Save your $5 and go down the road a bit and take a picture from there.

Note: you will get to gun hill and it will say "take the second left", there is no sign until after you take the second left. The road then wraps around (one way) past gun hill signal station, past the lion and back to where it says "gun hill take the second left".

Every time I am in Barbados I always go to Gun HIll. It is quick and easy way a great view of the island. I typically go when I am headed out to Bathsheba. The experience is pure Barbados.

Nice to call in and have a look, interesting these signal stations were strategically placed around the Island.
Gun Hill Signal Station was built in 1818 used to signal the approach of enemy ships and monitor the arrival of cargo ships.
The station is on the highland of St. George and a great view from East to South/West
This signal station was restored in 1982.
There is a lot of military memorabilia in rooms at the back of the Tower.

Visited the station during a stopover on a cruise. Informative tour and a simply ASTOUNDING view of the island. You should go, if only to have that view !

We travelled by bus to reach the Gun Hill Signal Station. We were met and welcomed by Kevin and Shakera who said we could wonder around the site on our own. Although it was an overcast day the views from the top are superb. In the station are a few pictures and an explanation of its use. The grounds are landscaped well and by chance John Webster the landscape gardener was around to have a chat with. There is plenty of seating dotted around, with a covered area to sit and watch a running video of the other uses of the Signal Station which can be hired out for weddings, cocktails and special occassions. There is a small selection of drinks and snacks available from the kiosk.

Gun Hill is run by the National Trust and donations from other organisations, they are hoping to raise enough money so that the overgrown track to the lion on the hill can be restored. For the moment you have to leave the site and walk/drive a short distance to view the lion.
