Fiumefreddo Bruzio locality Scaro immersed in rubbish with a nauseating smell. Always filthy sea and desolate streets with nothing to do. Heartfelt congratulations to the Mayor and associated municipal administration who demand taxes on non-residents without providing any service. I would also like to point out that the tax relating to water supply is equivalent for non-residents, who use it for only 1 month a year, to that of residents who use water all year round. I strongly advise against investing and coming on holiday to this location.

Beautiful medieval town. Unfortunately, as in many Italian villages, there is a growing migration of the population towards the big cities. Very beautiful buildings and delightful churches left to the ruins of time. Probably in winter the feeling of desolation will be greater. A hope for future years of a reversal of direction of the institutions and the valorization of countries like this

If you have 1.5 hours to do something fun, drive up some winding roads to eye popping vistas at the top where Castello del Valle stands. It is worth it. Not a difficult walk around and if like gelato you can grab some a two minute walk into the village next to the church. Photo ops are gorgeous and the village is charming.

Okay. So it’s ruins of a castle. Great view. It’s no casa loma or coliseum. But it’s free and worth an exploration. But if you make an afternoon if it you will get great views and a good walk in. Stop by the ristorante valle reale for a meal on site. Great food to top off the experience.

We love to visit the medieval towns on this list! Many of these "borghi" have castles and ancient churches, palaces and lots of beautiful antiquity - we love to wander the tight vias and under the arches, never knowing what we will find around the next corner! Great panoramic views from the castle as well as on the piazza - beautiful day or night especially with a lovely gelato in hand!

Been vacationing here for over 20 years since my family is from the area. Beautiful old town with medieval castle looking overlooking the marina. Amazing vistas and beautiful beach. Everything you want from an Italian vacation away from tourist trap destinations. See for yourself

Perched on a hillside with panoramic views, Fiumefreddo is well worth a visit. The castle is now restored and open, lovely little restaurants, coffee bars and gelateria tucked away down the always clean side streets, not to mention the "Library of Beer! Don't quite undertsand the statue of the large nude surfer but, who cares. Conuained within ancient fortifications, Fiumefreddo is a must see town if you are in this area.

This town is unbelievable, perched way up on a mountain with fantastic ocean views. Originally had 5 churches and 6 monasteries or convents. A (now destroyed in WWII) castle built by the Normans and then the Spanish. Lovely winding streets. Art (paintings and sculpture) in churches and public plazas of one of Italy's most famous artists. Europeans know about it but apparently few Americans come, much like the rest of Calabria which is rarely visited by Americans. That is their loss but perhaps that is why the area and this town have retained its great atmosphere and good restaurants.

This is a charming hill town, which Italy is famous for. We walked through the walls to the city, and meandered through the historical old streets to our restaurant. It was quiet and beautiful.

Fiumefreddo Bruzio is a small charming town, with narrow and cozy streets. From the castle you can admire the gorgeous Tyrrhenian sea and if you catch the sunset, the view is even more amazing.
