We came here as we saw photos of this amazing church. We checked the opening hours on their website to be sure it was open...and it was. The tickets were 12 zloty each, up from 5 zloty which actually says on the tickets but is crossed out and 12 is written instead. But it was worth it. Very cold inside but the decorations of this church are absolutely stunning. We enjoyed some Polish commentary over the speaker, which I understood quite a bit, but we were also given a paper with all history written in English. I would definitely recommend this church, even if you have to make a detour to come here.

OMG. As you arrive the building is stunning. A walk around the outside and you start to get a feel for the pride that went into the build and it’s importance in its day. THEN you go inside. I would challenge anyone not to draw breath when you walk int9 the main church area. Words can’t describe it you simply need to go see it!!!

The church is set for amplified audio tours (speakers in the church not headphones and little handsets) that last about 10/15 minutes when your inside so we had to wait a few minutes for a Polish tour to finish before they played it in English. After the tour there’s absolutely no pressure to leave, we stayed in there whilst a German group came through as the “looking” takes longer than the audio as there is just so much to look at. …… just go see….it’s a MUST.

Not going to spoil it by putting a pic on as they just don’t do it any justice at all.

This church, the largest wooden Baroque church in Europe, has a fascinating history. It was built as part of the Peace of Westphalia of 1648, which ended the Thirty Years War (and thus the "peace" in its name). Large parts of the interior have been meticulously restored already, and work is still ongoing on others. There's a printed guide available at the entrance, which explains the various features of the church.

The churches in Jawor and Świdnica are the only two surviving Protestant churches built under the Treaty of Westphalia, the treaty that ended the Thirty Years' War in 1648, and largest timber-framed religious buildings in Europe. Several restrictions were imposed on the evangelicals during their construction. The churches had to be built outside city walls without fortifications, steeples, or bells. They could only use low quality materials such as wood, clay, sand, and straw. Nails were forbidden. And construction time was limited to one year. Despite the aforementioned restrictions, Albrecht von Saebisch, an architect from Breslau, managed to build the world’s biggest wooden churches. Made of wood and clay, without towers, the 17th century churches amaze with the splendour of their interiors. Richly decorated matronea – galleries for Protestant gentry – are particularly worth noticing. With their Baroque decorations, golden ornaments, and rich paintings, both churches more resemble theaters inside than churches. Both churches were inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list in 2001. The church in Świdnica accommodates 7,500 faithful. A visit takes about 90 minutes. The organ in the church in Świdnica is especially famous for its impressive acoustics. Do not miss seeing these impressive churches if afforded the opportunity. Churches of Peace in Jawor and Świdnica are unique worldwide; you will not find such building anywhere else.

This church took only about a year to build. This said it is still a small wonder carved, painted and decorated made entirely of wood with an operational organ. It is protestant which had its own limitations at the time of its construction.
The is an in english audio guide and photos are allowed without flash.

This is an unassuming, unusual looking, church from the outside.
However, from the inside it is magnificent. It dates back many hundreds of years and the video shown inside the church explains a lot to the visitor.

Just to sit inside and look at the many "icons" can take a good half hour.

Well worth a visit.

One of the nicest church I've ever seen. It keeps the ornaments and you can still see the paintings on the ceiling. It is very fond inside.

We visited on a day trip from Wroclaw - Swidnica is an hour away by train.

The Church is 15/20 minute stroll from the station - through the main square.

Entrance is a bargain 10zl

Have to say we were blown away once getting inside - it's stunning!

Do try the little cafe bar by the arched entrance, it's cosy and beautiful inside and serves great local produce.

Amazing chirch in small town near Wroclaw. There is a large amount of churches in Wroclaw, but this one is something special and totally worth the trip to the town. Also the small restaurant in front of the church serves local dishies and they were amazing.

The largest timber wooden church in Europe with a spectacular Baroque style interior, beautiful painted ceilings (parts of the upper ranks have been in renovation back then). It is a beat off the beaten path, but if you have a car it is not that far away from Wroclaw which is a nice place to stop as well.
