Steven is a true gem! His botanical knowledge is top-notch—he makes the local flora super interesting. On top of that, he's an absolute joy to be around. His warmth and easy-going nature make every conversation enjoyable.
And as for lunch, he brought a sandwich that could’ve fed a small army! Also, be sure to ask Steve about his favorite local snacks since childhood - good bit of extra fun.
The hike itself was more of a walk, so suited for all kinds. Highly recommend as an alternative way to see Malta, her natural side, and a wee bit of history thrown in.

Wonderful day in the company of Stephen who explained about Malta, its history, some current affairs. Additionally he is a well of knowledge about botany. He spotted a few different orchids that are very exotic to me. Lunch was yummy. Stephen is extremely professional, on time and super kind.

One of the very few bad points about Malta & Gozo is the national 'hobby' of shooting migratory birdlife over 12000 registered hunters nationally. Therefore, taking part in this tour will hopefully help to educate & possibly introduce wildlife preservation into the Maltese mind set.

I booked my trip to Malta with very little advanced notice. After a little research I came across Malta Nature Tours. On Jan 15th I sent a request & received a very prompt reply. Although I didn’t give him much time Stephen was available to provide a guided walk on Gozo. On Jan 23rd he met me at the ferry port on Gozo & then we drove to our starting point in Sannat & began walking from the Sanap Cliffs to Xlendi where we had lunch in a quaint little restaurant directly on the waterfront. After Lunch we climbed the stone steps up the side of the cliffs & then along cliffs to the former Azure Window. Unfortunately this beautiful natural attraction collapsed into the sea in Mar 2017. Even without this, the area is well worth a visit. The views are breathtaking. Stephen’s knowledge of the area & of course the flora & fauna is immense. His patience is equally immense as I am not the fastest walker in the world. Since this was a private tour we were not in a hurry & could take time for the many great photo opportunities.
Malta/Gozo are fantastic for leisurely hikes even without a guide, but with someone who knows the area well, you can really get the most out of your day & learn much in the process.
I can highly recommend Malta Nature Tours & I will surely be booking with them for my next trip to Malta/Gozo.
Thanks to Stephen & his lovely wife I had a perfect day on Gozo. The tour has given me the opportunity to see Malta/Gozo in a new light & I will be coming back for more :-)))

We've spent 1 day exploring Malta's habitats and flora with Stephen Mifsud. I was impressed by his immense knowledge of Malta's endemic and rare plants, and enjoyed a lovely variety of landscapes and plants, as well as some historical sites.
If you wish a professional tour off the beaten track, different from the classical tourism, such a tour is highly recommended.

We spent a day with Stephen touring Gozo. He is an incredible guide - a professional botanist who knows everything about Gozo’s nature. Hiking with him was really interesting. Stephen knows culture and history of his land. He is very good at explaining the way of life. You cannot wish for a better guide in this incredibly beautiful island. Finally (and beyond the scope of sightseeing) we asked Stephen to help us choose Gozian wine and honey as souvenirs. We are now back home tasting Stephen’s delicious recommendations and thanking him for a great day at Gozo.

We just spent half a day hiking along Gozo´s southern coast, lead by expert botanist Stephen Mifsud, and I can honestly say that I have never learnt so much in such a short space of time! Stephen not only pointed out the vast array of plant life along those cliffs, which is the definite focus of the walk, but also the wildlife as well as cultural bits of information like the Maltese language. He also patiently addressed all the questions and cross references we came up with along the way. It is an absolute pleasure to accompany someone so knowledgeable and organised about their territory and with such enthusiasm for their environment. Stephen is also very good at judging the right pace, including rests in lovely spots, for his fellow walkers. Can´t recommend this trip highly enough!

Thank you so much for your feedback and it was also my pleasure to get to know you and tour you around. Maltese nature and its warm sunny climate is really stress relief if appreciated!

We came to Malta to seek good Nature expierience. Our aim was to see Orchids, Nature in general and learn some of the history of Malta. We had a whole day tour with Stephen Mifsud, and he showed us some great spots for finding Orchids. He proved to be a true expert on plants of all species. Furthermore he showed us old Roman Baths and the great defenceline across Malta. If you have any interest in plants you should buy his book "Orchids of the Maltese Island". It gives you an easy and understandable introduction to the orchids, flowering periods and in which part of the Island to find them. If you want to get in details you will find them in the book all illustrated with fantastic close up photos.

If plants are your passion, this is a great way to get to know the Maltese flora. We recently went with guide Stephen Mifsud in search of orchids around the northern/central part of the island, and found ourselves with someone whose knowledge and enthusiasm for the botany of Malta is truly profound. Stephen's impressive knowledge of the plants is hugely extensive and detailed, and he proved too to be a great guide to the environs and island's history. We spent some delightful hours rambling over several sites, seeing many wonderful specimens, and also some extraordinary remains of Malta's ancient and varied past - about all of which Stephen was able to give us illuminating information. We recommend this outing to anyone who enjoys plant spotting, being out in the countryside, and getting to know more about the island they are visiting - you will be in excellent hands!
