Fifth highest peak in Gory Izerskie mountains, stands high right above the town of Świeradów-Zdrój, even if formally it is within Mirsk commune boundaries. Superb viewing point on the whole Góry Izerskie, and beyond. Only about 1,5km from the highest in Izerskie - Smrk, which is already on Czech side of th border. The state border on this stretch doesn't go on top of the main Sudetes ridge, but goes down into the Izera river valley, which makes the area just south of Stóg Izerski one of few small parts in Poland, that are not in Baltic Sea catchment area, in fact Izera is Łaba (Elbe) river tributary, which means that waters from southern slopes of Stóg do end up in North Sea. Stóg Izerski is now easy to spot, since radio/tv tower has been built just below it's top. Also the mountain is popular with skiers, since the cable car has been built about a decade ago, that cable car can also help with discovering places located a bit further while hiking, as it is open in summer. Close to it's upper station there's a mountain hut, called Schronisko PTTK na Stogu Izerskim. Good seletion of marked trails pass the peak, or run just below, with the most important - red one, called Główny Szlak Sudecki, allowing to climb the very top. Most of the trails south of the summit involve long distance walking, as that area is uninhabited.

Totally worth it to take the gondola up or even a hike if you are healthy and capable of the few hours it takes. Great place for photos, and you can have a snack and beer up there, also beverages for those who need coffee and juices for kids.

Standing at the panorama deck of the Stóg Izerski Schronisko one can behold the lands leading up to the mountains, with the Śnieżka visible in the distance. Excellent photo opportunity. Great walking trails, a bit tricky after snowing, but we had a great New Years Day outing, with great food in the Schronisko at the end.
