There are two main overlooks to see Lagoa das Sete Cidades. One is well marked near the traffic circle at the top of the hill. It’s easy to find and there’s plenty of parking. You can also see the abandoned Monte Palace hotel there. We were a little disappointed with the view from this one as the blue lake didn’t look that blue. It was around 10:00 am and it was reflecting the green trees on the shore. This nullified a lot of the color contrast between the two lakes.
The other location had a much better view and is located near the Lagoa do Canario parking lot. The difference in the colors of the two lake is much better here. This is where most of the the photos that you see on the internet are taken. It’s a 5-minute drive from the other overlook to the Lagoa do Canario parking lot.
You can walk a short side trail to see Lagoa do Canario but most people just go for the overlook of Sete Cidades. It’s about a 20-minute walk (1 way) from the parking although you great some great views for almost half of the walk. I think they used to let people drive closer to the lookout point but the road is now closed to traffic.
Google Maps is horrible for the Lagoa do Canario parking lot. It gave us a route of almost 40 minutes from the first overlook even though it’s 5 minutes away. We eventually figured it out.
Most people will stop at both overlooks, partly because the first one is so easy to access. If you only want to visit one, you definitely should go the the Lagoa do Canario one.

The first time, we stopped in the parking lot to see Lake Canario (which is not impressive), and we wondered where all the tourists were going. We understood that night that they were going to Miradouro and we came back the next day, except that we were in the clouds.
For this new attempt, we parked 1 km further along the road and took a much less passable path, especially since it rained.
Conclusion, study your move carefully before going up to Boca do Inferno. I gave you a little card because it's wrong, if not inappropriate. Which is the height for a postcard landscape.

We went here on our first day on Sao Miguel in case it was too cloudy to see so we could come back. Luckily it was clear enough to get the great view over the lakes, although the low hanging clouds did block the hills in the distance. The parking lot is easy to locate off the main road and then it’s a short 20 minute walk to get to the viewpoint. Most of the walk is on a flat dirt road than there is short uphill hiking trail to get to the view point. We did this with my 3 and 5 year old with no problem. Be sure to check out the lake that is just a short trail off the dirt road.

We parked at the Lagoa da Canario. The small hiking trail to the Miradouro is easy to walk in dry weather, although it is steep in places. The view of the lakes is wonderful, but there are a lot of visitors to this small viewing platform.
We like the Miradouro Vista do Rei better in this respect. It is more spacious, more relaxed and almost more beautiful, as you are closer and deeper to the lakes.

There is a bit of a walk to get here but it is not difficult. Enough so that many people to not get here but if I were advising a friend coming to the island, I would tell them to absolutely come to this miradouro. Unfortunately being able to see the crater well is subject to weather and in our five weeks on the island in April and May, there were very few clear days to get the best views. Not sure what that looks like though in the summer as it sounds like there are a few less cloudy days at that time. The view here is spectacular - not too many places better.

Fantastic walk between the canary pond and this viewpoint. Unparalleled panoramic view. The climb is hard for those with health problems or poor physical preparation. I do not recommend taking the tour with children under the age of 6. Return descent with some sliding zones. Advisable mountain footwear and trekking support/bengala. Bring me water. If it's raining very careful in the most muddy areas.

Go in the morning for best photographs and to get ahead of most visitors (sun at back). If you can't walk very far or are short of time, don't park in the parking lot by the main road. If the gate is open, drive in and follow the dirt road that everyone is hiking along to the very base of the ridge where the trail goes uphill to the actual "miradouro"/viewpoint. There is room for several cars there. The view is amazing. If you have bad knees, bring trekking poles. It's about 5 minutes uphill to the viewpoint, depending on your uphill capability.

Amazing Miradouro da Boco do Inferno. Google maps gave us a bit of a run around getting to this location. We passed it because the sign said Lagua. Google maps also said to take a left but that entrance was blocked. Going past the entrance gave us a chance to see some awesome sites along the way. Once we figured out what was going on we turned around and it was really foggy. We parked and walked in and thought we missed our opportunity to see the caldera. If this happens to you stay because it cleared and we had a great view. To see the caldera you need to continue walking along the narrow path. You can also see the caldera from sites along the road but there isn't any real places to park.

A nice 20-30 minute hike leading to arguably the best views on Sao Miguel island. Likely this is the very spot you see in your image search of the Azores. The hike begins very flat up to near the end when there is an incline up to the summit. Very doable for all, a light hike on paved roads to start then gets a bit tougher once you get onto the hill. We used hiking poles and they were a bit helpful for the steeper areas but definitely doable without them. The summit does get cloudy often, and it would be of value to wait 30 minutes and see if the sights improve. There may be some spots to sit to the left of the banister at the top. You may want to consider coming here earlier in the week so you can opt to go a second time if the conditions are not clear at the top. If you found this to be helpful, please indicate below so I know where to focus my future review efforts!

One of the most beautiful places on the island, but of course, to get there you have to leave the car where the viewpoint of Lake Do Canario and from there a walk that goes up, easy, but it is a while. It is very worthwhile for the spectacular views you find, the wild nature of the Azores in its purest state. A real wonder

Hello everyone, Where exactly is this viewpoint (Boca do Inferno)? We were in the area, but don't recall this particular location.
Thanks for any help,
Sam S.

Hello Sam
You have to search for the Lagoa do Canário (37.836759,-25.758474), and then just go down in to the dirt road, on the left side you will see a couple of wooden stairs, just go up and then left again. You will go up hill and then you will be able to see it.
It's well worth it!!
Enjoy
