The first thing I wanted to do, as soon as we arrived in Sicily, was to stop in the place where extraordinary people lost their lives. I cannot express the deep sense of anger and sadness you feel while walking in this garden (not advertised and also a little hidden). Seeing the tunnel where the TNT had been placed, the murals, the two pillars in memory and the various olive trees is exciting and at the same time leads us to reflect and keep alive the memory of a dark page in our history.

In the place where the terrible Capaci massacre took place, when the Corleonesi led by Totò Riina blew up the motorway at the point where Judge Falcone was passing with his wife and the men of the escort, now stands a very tall stele with the names of the five victims of the Capaci massacre. Furthermore, a garden of remembrance with olive trees has been created. Next to each olive tree there is a tag with the name of the mafia victim to whom that tree is dedicated. At the entrance to the street that leads to the garden of memory there is a plaque which states that on 23 May 1992 Giovanni Falcone, his wife and three escort agents were killed by the political-mafia power. This plaque was a real punch in the stomach because it makes you think about what a decisive role politics had in the success of the massacre.

The Garden of Memory is a place of great emotional impact. Absolutely worth visiting to understand the impact of organized crime on civil society.

A visit necessary thinking of those who sacrificed themselves for us.
I have read a lot about the mafia and the struggle, and with every olive tree that bore the name of a martyr I felt a deep thrill mixed with a bitter feeling that still lingers in me when I think about how much work still needs to be done.
One discordant note: the owners of the dogs who take them there to do their business.
For the rest, great emotion and I will certainly return again.
