Beautiful waterfall and a very easy way to it. Only the first part is somewhat steep, but then almost flat. Due to my health and limited energy, we cannot do difficult or long hikes. We took the shuttle bus from the parking lot to Rabacal House, which saved quite a climb! (NOTE: starts at 10:00 AM and not at 9:00 AM)
From here it was only a 20 minute walk with photo stops in between! Easy to find with clear signs.

Easy route, almost flat road, but first you need to reach the starting point. The waterfall is high, around a lot of water flows down from the mountains. Very beautiful views, very unusual nature.

We were not told how very narrow and high these paths were! We were told it was an easy 3 or 4 km walk. Never having been to Madeira before or heard of Levada walks, we assumed they were a bit like a country hike with some easy slopes. Wrong. Start off with an 800m tunnel anyone over about 5feet 5 will need to duck...if you can see by the light of your phone torch, if you have one...and walk through deep puddles in the dark. Next throw in steep, uneven steps of up to around 200 at once, a narrow path (barely wide enough for one small person) with a sheer drop "fenced off" by a 2 wire fence. The end result is beautiful but having an absolute terror of heights and no way of not carrying on with the walk, I was in no fit state to appreciate it. And we had to retrace the narrow path back! So if you have claustrophobia, difficulty climbing and descending uneven steps or a fear of heights AVOID! This walk would not be deemed safe in the UK!

Much more beautiful and bigger falls than 25 Fontes. Recommend going to see this one for sure! Also buy the van driving you up and down from parking, its good value because the walk from parking is not that beautiful.

Nice levada walk, in the shadows for most of the part. At the end there a beautiful start of levada with a lagoon and a waterfall. You can turn left halfway to the end, there is another waterfall at the bottom.

We actually wanted to do the Levada do Alecrim. However we misunderstood the signs and after 20 minutes we realize we're doing the Levada do Risco. What a wonderful mistake!! It's so good to feel connected with the nature and in the end you'll find a beautiful waterfall..! And once you leave by car you'll have the best road trip... the nature and the mountains is almost like a Pandora movie.

Great place where you can walk in silence and enjoy surrounding nature. It is directly connected with Levada das 25 Fontes so you can enjoy both during one day.

The journey from the car park to the real start of the walk at the foresters' house is down a steep tarmacked road for about 2km. There is a bust that does this journey about every 20 minutes on the day we were there. A single journey is E3 and return E5. Money well spent especially on the return journey.
The walk to the Cascada Do Risco is generally easy, a few steep steps, quite wet in places and one small section is quite narrow with a steep drop. The waterfall itself is impressively high though not dramatic - in January there was just a narrow steady flow.
There are no facilities on route (except for a toilet at the foresters' house so make sure you are well stocked with water and food. The round trip takes about 2 hours (3.5 hours if you also do the 25Ffontes)

Easy route but from the route starting point. But from the free parking to the route starting point you will spend extra 30 minutes down and 50 minutes up... Unless you pay 3eur down and 3eur up for doing it in a 12-people-van...I suggest you pay it. The end of the route will reward your small effort with a great scenery.
