We originally were supposed to do only the Alecrim Levada as we had our 3 year old with us but risked it and went along to Vereda da Lagoa do Vento. It's quite a hike but the reward is well worth it. I wouldn't recommend doing it with children, specially small ones, unless you have a backpack to carry them and have a good stamina . The Vereda da Lagoa do Vento is a 1km hike downhill with loadssss of steps, mud, water and stone. It's quite something the waterfall, there's no words. Go early so you get plenty of day light through the vegetation.

What a perfect walk! Starting at the parking lot of rabacal. But instead of following the herd of people, we took the road to Alecrim. After some time the trail splits in half. Either you follow the levada do Alecrim, or you go way down to lagao do Vento. We´ve chosen the way down, and it was worth it! It´s a lot of stairs to go all the way down. But what you see is one of the most amazing places in Madeira. It is like a fantasy spot...

The way back you can choose to go back up or take the path to the rabacal house.

Incredible waterfall and plunge pool, just a beautiful place to be. The walk from the car park to the trail head will take 20 mins, but then is about 1 mi along a quite technical and not very flat path.

We combined this with visits to 25 fontes and the bottom of Cascata Risco, which we would recommend - totalling a distance of around 7.5 miles and took about 5 hours total.

I have also reviewed that hike if you seek info on that hike or the shuttle bus service.

We arrived early and were the only car at the car park, and we had the waterfall to ourselves for the whole 45 minutes we spent there. (approx 8 - 8:45 on a Wednesday AM in Late May 2023)

Lagoa do vento>levada do Alecrim.
Unfortunately we wasted time to go and see the waterfall at the end of the levada do Alecrim, unfortunately it wasn't worth it.
