I rarely feel the need to leave a 1 star review but this place is almost comically bad. It’s €10 each to get in but that doesn’t get you access to use the toilets that are half a euro each extra. The place was almost deserted. The “theme park” consists of a few ponds, some (4 or 5) replica traditional buildings, some sad looking animals in their tiny zoo, a “simulator” ride that moves you around a bit while essentially watching an advert from the Madeira tourist board and a ride that claimed to take you through Madeiras history but was actually just a 2-3 minute trundle through some tunnels with flashing lights, mirrors, plastic plants and pictures of ships (no history to be seen). Toddlers may enjoy the playgrounds and remote control boats but otherwise I’d strongly recommend you save your money and don’t waste time on this place. The traditional houses can be seen for free in Santana itself.

This place looks like it should be something, Geared up for big crowds with lots of turnstiles as you walk in, yet the place is empty like a ghost town, when walking through the endurance,
Yes it's cheap but for a reason. We took and 8 year old, a 11 year old and a 15 year old they all thought it was very very dull, half heartedly slapped together to try and attract tourists to pay.
Save your money it's not what you think it is.
In a nutshell it's boating lake, a play area and some houses to walk ina and out of full of traditional clothing and items.

Not much else to do Jere. If you don’t drive, it’s kinda of far from hiking trial or beach. We walked around the town, visited fresh fruit market, ate lunch and waited for the next bus to return to hotel. 2 hours is more than plenty

Its a basic tematic park ith the story of Madeira Island. young kids will like it. They have parks to play, you can row a boat, use some simulators, in the end an experince that will not be the best but its ok...

Small tip that I can give if you just want to have a look: you can visit the exteriors of the park and the houses of Santana without paying, but they will not tell you that in the entrance. Tip: We have paid 10 euros and only after did we realize that we could have enter for free if we skipped some exhibitions. The paid exhibitions were a museum about Madeira (interesting, but short) and some movie about Madeira where the chair we were seated was moving like it was a car, cabble car or horse... that was the most fun pavillon.
The free part of the museum includes a look to Santana houses and traditional activities, a watermill and posing for the photos on the top of a Madeira plastic hat, banana or honeycake.
You can feel that the park is a bit decadent and that major improvements are needed.
I can see kids having fun there, but its not a not to miss attraction...

We visited the parque tematico on a Tuesday and it was almost empty. To be honest, this place deserves more. Maybe it was due to the fact that it was not the holiday season and it was week day.
But the more fun for us. There are two playgrounds for little kids, some restaurants but you can also bring your own food. There is a super market just 200 meter in front of the entrance.
I don't agree with the negative reviews because it offers quite a lot for the money and you can always get a reduction voucher in one of the Hertz Rental agencies(you dont have to rent a car).
There are some pavillions which show you the history of the island which i found really interesting and it was good that our 2-year old slept so we could go through it without being in a hurry.
Sure, you cannot expect Disney Land on such a remote Island but for a 3-4 hours with the family, it is great fun.
Another plus is the clean toilets!
Sight seeing tip: Dont drive on the highway but take the smaller roads. It will offer you a lot nice views on the island on the way back to Funchal.

I was intrigued as to what this park was about after reading the reviews. We did get slightly lost finding it but I think that was just our sat nav. Loads of parking, ticket price I felt was a little steep compared to other attractions. The park was very, very quiet but it was an overcast day which turned into a heavy downpour in the afternoon. We went to all the attractions. The one little ride about how Madeira is discovered is cute. The simulator is the only other 'ride' that's at the park. We also got the little rowing boat out on the lake. I think there is so much they could do with this it is definitely under-utilised.

We have been at this little Theme Park for a number of years now.It is spacious and well laid out though less able folk may have a few of the hillier areas.Felt that the whole place needed a bit of a make over this year.Nothing seems to have changed since we started going, there were few people there and wondered if the locals were bored with it.It seems a shame that this little park is not enjoyed by more people.

I visited the MSC in the afternoon, the place was pretty empty so very quiet which I have mixed feelings about: it's nice to have a quiet visit, but then it was a bit too empty for my liking. There is a lot to be seen by the visitors and a lot of the information and shows had the option of being in English which we appreciated, as not everyone in the group spoke Portuguese. The only thing is you have to organize your time there if you want to visit all the shows, as they have marked starting times in low season (some start on the hour, others at the half past mark, so you don't have to wait too long between shows). It wasn't my first time there, I'd been there in the summer and they had staff actually working the local art and craft, so you could see ladies doing stitch work, cane baskets, etc, and that was cool,! No luck this time, (maybe low season?) so we just had empty cabins with a TV showing how the stuff is done - not the same experience. There is a cool little lake with row boats and a maze in the garden, pretty small, nothing you'd get lost in, but enough to get kids having a nice time. If you want to have lunch, there are a couple of restaurants, but I would recommend you eat somewhere else because the quality/price outside of the park is much better, but then you might encounter language difficulties. I thought the snack bar was over priced for Madeira standards. Overall worth a visit and it's good for everyone: couples, families, young kids, mature people. ON A PLUS NOTE: "Visitors with disabilities are exempt from paying an entrance fee to the Madeira Theme Park"

You can get directions from google maps, using the postcode on the theme parks website, and if you have satnav this would also do the trick. Otherwise, head across the island, basically north from Funchal, to Santana, travel down the hill through the town of Santana and you should find it in your left hand side as you leave the town. There are signs when you approach Santana, with the theme park logo on them.
