pick a time of day when it won’t be overrun with tourists
Feb 2020 • Solo
such an amazing place but it’s one of those that attracts visitors and i felt badly for some of the locals who were there paying their respects and cleaning some family member’s graves which bus loads of small groups were traipsing around.

i really loved walking through the rows and seeing the carved stone figurines that depict what the departed loved or owned while they were alive.

this is a very special place but if you’re looking to take photos, i’d say make sure you choose areas that don’t have tons of people walking through or you wait until the small groups have seen enough and decide to leave.

i love visiting cemeteries in other countries but i can’t remember seeing one as crowded as this one.

A well cared for cemetary
Nov 2019
Although we were in time for viewing the cemetary it had been closed early, but from the gate you could see how well kept it was. A mass of flowers on the ornate graves and headstones.

The Prettiest Little Cemetery You’ll Ever Visit
Nov 2019 • Friends
Seriously...the Barichara cemetery is a must visit while you are in Barichara. All of the headstones are beautifully carved by master carvers. It is absolutely serene early in the morning. Recommend visiting in the early morning or late afternoon for the best light.

Nice cemetery
Jul 2019 • Couples
Our driver recommended stopping by and it was nice to see. There is a saying in Spanish as you walk in that basically says some like, life is short but with gods love he will show you the way. Very nice.
Beautiful stone work.

Nice small and neat head stones
Feb 2019 • Solo
Very nice cemetery with neat looking headstones. Very colourful with the plastic flowers. It closes at 5:00pm. Well kept cemetery, with some hedges around the gravestones.

Worth a visit

Interesting cemetery to visit. Next door to Capilla de Jesus, it is worth a few minutes of strolling through.

who would imagine
Sep 2018 • Couples
I would never consider a cemetery as a tourist attraction but this one is totally worth it. Once you go in you can fell a sense of peace around you, graves are pieces of art, some of them back from the 1900’s. It is a small very well preserve place with a lot of history. A must if you go to Barichara

Very different cemetery. Free admission
Mar 2018 • Couples
This cemetery is unique. The grave sites portray what the deceased did in life. Really fantastic to walk around and observe all the monuments. Well maintained and very well done. I would suggest a visit here you will not be disappointed. There is no admission charge

Unique Cemetery Experience
May 2018 • Solo
I went in expecting nothing special... I mean, a graveyard is a graveyard, right? But I was surprised at the amount of colour and unique stone carvings and the artistic beauty of it. Feels like a garden or a park, and you really get a sense that people here respect and honour the deceased.

For a quiet, peaceful walk on your own, this is a wonderful place to reflect.

Very beautiful. You must see with day light and darkness. Has a special atmosphere. Ask for the locals to tell you about the story of the cats.
