About
Built in the purest tradition of modern american golf architecture by Pete Dye and PB Dye, every inch of the course is an ode to the imagination, combining respect for nature with technical flair.

Beautiful setting beside the golf course
Aug 2018 • Couples
Such a beautiful, quiet location which is close to Brignoles.
Diverse menu selection which suits all tastes at reasonable prices.
Extensive wine selection too.

If you like a fair test of golf on a course that is well prepared, in good condition and presents varied risk and reward this course is NOT for you. The design leaves a lot to be desired with some really ridiculous holes. There are blind drives, blind second shots, and inadequate risk and reward meaning that as you cannot see the green or the stick there's no option but to lay up. Personally I don't think this golf course should ever have been built on this terrain.

We played it in March 2018 and the condition was dreadful. One can accept greens that are being treated but it was difficult to find good grass on the fairways with large patches of mud; the first and second cuts were just full of weeds and no grass. It was a struggle to play even 'preferred lies'.

For this to be listed above Chateau Taulane is a travesty and it does not compare to Terre Blanche, both of which are well designed and in beautiful condition.

Also, it costs 75 Euros. I'm happy to pay whatever for a good course and as a reasonable 7 handicap can adapt to most things, but in my opinion this is a complete waste of money and the owners should be ashamed charging people to play in its current condition.

I reckon they would have to close the course and spend at least £0.5m and a full growing season to get this course into reasonable condition, but even that would not eliminate the 'crazy' holes.

The burgers in the clubhouse though were amazing. So if you are going to Barbarous, don't bother playing, just eat!

huge disappointment
Bad experience, the course was terribly crowded with huge delays as a result. We played 4 holes in over 2 hours after which we left.
Course was not in top condition, place had not been mowed recently (flowers growing across the fairways). No maintenance done except the bare minimum.
Also: the caddiemaster was very slow at check in.
You can tell this place has been acquired by a commercial hotel organisation and is no longer ran by real golf people

Great Restaurant
Apr 2014 • Family
We have used the main formal Restaurant on a number of occasions and visited again at Easter for their Special lunch.

The menu was excellent, the service first class and for once I can think of nothing at all to complain about. It is not cheap, but then again it is not expensive for the quality and presentation.

Great golf in pleasant setting

Well designed golf course. In the summer the links are a bit dry in spite of the good maintenance. The pro shop is well equipped. During our stay there were relatively few players.

Dear Sir, Thank you for taking the time to write your comment on our golf course. Concerning Barbaroux is in the heart of Provence and concerned for environmental, that's why the links and the roughs remain wild during the summer ... like many great courses in the world. Hope to see you soon in Barbarous Benjamin CATERNET

Unfortunately the French have discovered it!
May 2013 • Solo
I have been enjoying this course for about 10 years. It is a great challenge and virtually all holes have the ability to bite you especially if you play off the back tees. For instance, the first has a large pond of water in front of the tee which has to be carried, with a large bunker beyond, and finishes with a undulating green making the putt(s) tricky.

The course is very three dimensional and there can be long distances between one green and the next tee so it can be quite tiring so I would recommend hiring a buggy unless you are super-fit. The third features a drop to the green of about 120 ft!

Some of the holes on the front 9 feature large drops off the edge of the fairway and most of these are designated as lateral water hazards. Four of the back 9 feature significant water hazards. Lost balls are a common event for most normal golfers.

The club house is now run by the Mercure hotel chain and is very modern and well appointed. Food in the past has been good but I did not try it on the recent visit. This was largely due to the 6 hours it took to complete the round (I have usually completed it in the past in under 4) which I can only put down to the rough being longer hence people were taking longer to find their balls, and the course was generally busier than usual as the French have now discovered it.

Round costs 72€ and buggy about 30€. There is hotel accommodation available on the course site which reduces the green fee by a small amount, but we have felt the rooms are over-priced.

Comfortable surroundings
Jul 2012 • Friends
We have visited this Golf course on a number of occasions and whilst the course is good and in need of some attention the Restaurant provides a good variety of food, well presented at reasonable prices. If its just a snack to a full 3 course meal they cater for all. A very relaxed surrounding to visit and eat whether or not you want to play a round of Golf.

Nice challeging coarse
Jun 2012 • Couples
You have tp lay the coarse at least twice to know how to play it, a buggy or electric trolley is recommended, we walked it once but that was it
