Sunset in Zia

5 reviews
Charming Zia in the southernmost slope, whose superb location makes it the perfect spot for viewing spectacular sunsets and gazing at the nearby islands of Kalymnos and Pserimos as well as the Turkish coast in the distance.

During the summer the settlement of Zia is bursting with activity from the countless visitors who come to taste local delicacies served in charming traditional taverns, to purchase unique local products and souvenirs and to stroll through the cobblestone alleyways all the way up to its crystal-clear fresh water springs, the most well-known of which is Kefalovrisi.

Thursday 1st October and we visited the popular holiday town of Mastihari on the northern coast of the Island. The beach starts up by the Harbour and stretches for 5 kilometres along the coast. It is a wide beach with it's white sand washed by the crystal clear waters of the Aegean Sea. Numerous sunbeds and umbrellas are spaced out on the beach. Some are provided, for the use of their customers, by the many bars and restaurants along the back of the beach. Natural shade is provided by clumps of trees There is plenty of space along the beach to spread out towels and beach mats, relax and be cooled by the gentle breeze from the sea.

Sandy and clean with sun-beds/umbrellas for hire. Very nice place and close to restaurants, shops and other facilities. A great walk as its a fair distance to the other end.

Nice sandy beach. There is a little bit of seaweed but its no problem. Some loungers have a safebox and wifi, but we went further up and did not pay, dont know if that was because where we went was free or we were just missed. We have found the sea is calmer in the south ( Kardamenia, Paradise Beach etc ) and rougher in the North, like here, but our 5yo enjoyed being lifted over the waves. We built a big sand castle together, as we were leaving she said she'd had the best beach day ever.

Mastichari beach is a long beach starting from the harbour. Loads of sunbed areas and some are free if you use the bars associated. Great beach although the sea can be rough and there is a lot of seaweed along it’s length. I believe this is cleared occasionally, however once you get past it the sea bed is sandy and not too deep
