Bookings essential at Willie Smiths esp on weekends.
Our first time there - had a fabulous meal served with excellent timing and accompanied by nice Tassie wines.
We had a shared entree, 2 mains, 1 side and 4 gls of wine between the 2 of us for $150. Could also have had their all day breakfast menu, as it was a weekend.
Loved the ambience and the easy way the story of the orchard is told through their museum at the end of restaurant, which is in a rustic apple shed.
They do cider and liquor tastings as well - so there really is something for everyone. Enjoy!

Located on the Huon Highway (just over 5 mins out of Huonville. You can't miss the large timber shed on the side of the road, with Apple Shed painted in large white letters. They have a large parking area around the rear of the building, with disabled access to the dining area.

The dining area and kitchen are located inside this giant timber packing shed. Its all very rustic, with wooden bench tables. They also have a grassed outdoor dining area, I'd imagine it would be perfect for a sunny day, not so on a cold wet winters day though.

It opens at 10am but I wouldn't leave it too late to go for lunch as most of the lunch specials are sold out before 1am, even on a week day. It usually closes by 5pm except on the weekend. The kitchen was really pumping out the meals when we were there on a Tuesday. We were lucky enough to score the last lamb shanks for the day. The meat just fell off the bone and the mash soaked up the delicious sauce. They serve a variety of ciders on tap and we had the added bonus of a winter mulled cider to warm us up. Willie Smith's is a great place to stop for lunch.

The also have a small shop area near the front counter, where you can purchase packaged (cans and bottles) cider, as well a distilled cider spirits (made at their own on-site distillery). At the other end of the shed they have a small museum, which if you have an additional 10-15mins, is worth walking around to get an understanding of the history of apple growing in the region.

WOW. Began with coffee and amazing chocolate brownie (gluten free). We then came back for a late lunch of the most incredible pork belly, apple and walnut salad and roast winter vege. All gluten and dairy free. WOW. Cooked to perfection, each morsel in the plate was incredible tasty and complimented each other. Big serves, great value, wonderful staff. DELICIOUS flight of cider and wine selection. Loved the apple museum as well! Amazing heaters and warmth on a freezing cold day.

Nice drive from Hobart.
Delicious food and cider. Pulled pork taco and the potatoes are to died for.
Leave some room for dessert- all things apple.
Museum on site was good to visit but didn’t donate gold coin because I don’t carry cash.

Such a great experience at Willey Smith's, amazing food, awesome coffee and fantastic staff and service. Even though it was super busy the staff were so professional and didn't miss a smile to welcome every customer. Well done to all the staff, you all deserve recognition for your exceptional customer service . Make Wiley Smith's a destiny for a day to sit back and soak in this amazing place, restaurant, outdoor areas, beautiful gardens while enjoying a beer, cider, wine
from the outdoor bar area. It's just stunning :) <3

We tried a flight of Tasmanian-made ciders, all of which tasted amazingly different. We also had slow-cooked roast lamb, and roasted pork belly. We also had a bowl of roast potatoes, which helped keep the cold out. It was a filling meal, but Tasmania is cold in winter! By the way, they had a really good singer who sang folk rock classics.

After visiting Mt Wellington, we drove to Willie Smith Apple Shed. We arrived at around 5pm, knowing that it closes at 6pm. However the ladies there told us the kitchen was already closed. We can only order some pastries and drinks. Luckily the apple cider was still available. But after tasting it, it's less than ordinary. I think we can get better food products in town than coming out of the way here. You won't miss much if you have no time to come here.

On a weekday there appears to be limited breakfast options. Potato rosti are extraordinarily large and by the time you finish one they are rather tedious. A smaller potato perhaps with a piece of bacon as well as the egg may work better. That said, we enjoyed the context, the apple museum, even if the Beauty of Bath, the apple of my youth, had gone, and staff were friendly and service was good. Judging by the extent to which tables were reserved this is a popular place. Bookings would appear to be essential at busy times!

Did the full tour + tasting here for Willie Smith's + Charles Oates and it was a great experience.

Only comment is that it's a bit pricey - really would have liked to pass on the cheese plate for a cheaper tour, but anyway.

Recommended aside from that.

Weekend drive to the Huon to show some visitors around.
Willies was hosting a bushfire fundraising day so we stopped in.
What a great spot!
Room for kids to run around and play.
You sit inside or out.
Food was lovely with a great array of drinks.

Can’t wait to go back
