We visited Landštejn Castle on a tour and this is just a short review to encourage others with an interest in history to do so as well. The castle is quite large and one has to contemplate the effort to build something this massive in the 13th century. While it is not quite a ruin, it's clearly now a monument, not a dwelling. The trip to the top of the tower offers an excellent view.

We visited this historic site on an OATS (Overseas Adventure Travel) tour. This place gives you an idea of what it would be like to live in the area centuries ago.
The view from the top of the tower is fantastic.
We marveled at how large and complicated this structure would have been back in it's time.

One of the largest castle ruin in the Czech republic, located in South Bohemia in the middle of an area called Czech Canada. The ruin itself is imposing and very well maintained. It is easily accessible by car, there is a parking lot just in front of the castle - parking fee 40 CZK. One can visit a small archeological and historical exhibition at the entrance to the castle (70 CZK) and then explore the castle by oneself - information boards are in Czech, English and German. It is possible to climb also the highest tower from where you have a 360 degree view of sorrounding landscape. A dense network of marked hiking paths and cycle tracks enables to spend a day or a few in the region.

I was reminded of a tour of Ireland’s castles a few years ago. Though this is not as large, it reminds me of the Blarney Castle ruins. Statni Hrad Landsteijn is undergoing limited restoration, and stairs have been constructed to access the tower. This is definitely not for those with ambulation issues. To access the castle, there’s a walk up a steep hill, but the tower roof views are phenomenal. Perhaps because of the remote location and lack of busy highways, this medieval castle may take decades to be fully restored, but it’s good to see what has existed for centuries—before it’s rehabbed. Some of the walls are twelve feet thick, solid rock. Observing the durable construction makes it obvious how this structure has survived centuries of minor earthquakes and weathering.

History of this castle goes back to the 13th century . It is a unique complex of its type in Bohemia, and one of the most significant Romanesque monuments in central Europe. It is opened to the public since 1990 again. You can walk through the castle on your own and learn about its history in an exhibition situated near the entry.
You can park your car directly in front of the castle and there is a nice restaurant there, too.

Although it is a ruine, it is one of the largest medieval castles in CZ well preserved (as a ruine) and as such gives a good imagination of what that castle could have been

Stopped in while in the area. Interesting castle to visit with a reasonable amount of English captions. The tour was self- guided. There was also a small museum on site. Worth the time if you are in Slavonice.

Incredible views! Well maintained castle grounds and ruins, a lot of stairs to the top - dogs allowed which we were thankful for!

While visiting a nearby town of Slavonice, we took a bus to visit Landstejn. Not a difficult climb to the towers from which amazing views can be enjoyed. It's a large ruin with multiple levels, safe. Gate closed at 4 PM, but the kind lady guard waited half hour until we were done looking. There is a rest area just outside the gate where we enjoyed our snacks, for those wanting a fuller meal, there is a restaurant in a nearby large parking lot with fish specialties.

We stopped here on a tour and found this ancient castle to be well worth the admission price. It is an old ruin and is not a well-preserved specimen, but you can get a feel for the times. We were fortunate to be here when 8 actors did a play of about 20 minutes recounting some of the history of the region. It was, of course, in Czech, but you can follow it with few problems. Definitely climb the 200 stairs to the top for the sensational views of the surrounding region (including looking into Austria).
