Very interesting and elegant, well presented museum. Might be hard for people who don't understand Italian. Definitely worth a visit. Unfortunately we couldn't visit the walls of the castle as they were partially blocked off for a function.

Yesterday was the last day of our week long holiday in Lunigiana, and before driving to Bologna airport we had a few hours to kill. The day before we had discovered Pontremoli, a lovely town which we wish we'd discovered earlier in the week. We returned yesterday as we'd heard about the castle and the Statue Stele, and having had coffee and pastries and a walk around the wonderful town centre and the Duomo, we walked up the lovely cobbled streets to the castle. The castle itself is fabulous, and really interesting to walk around. Very well worth a visit in its own right, but the Statue Stele stole the show. The story about their history and how they were dispersed over such a huge area had us absolutely intrigued, and the way that they were displayed was superb. A first class exhibition, and very well worth a visit if you are in the area. Give Pontremoli some time too, and you won't be disappointed!

I absolutely loved it here. The castle which serves as the museum is so atmospheric and the stele are placed perfectly for maximum impact. They provide headsets for translation of the video presentations into both English and French.
The visit has encouraged me to find out more about these magical statues and the culture that created them.
The man at the front desk was super friendly and helpful and I highly recommend a visit.

Very nice and well-kept museum, which goes a long way explaining the origin, history and meaning of the steles found in the area. We enjoyed walking around, both inside the museum and outside in the small castle. Spent around an hour there. Quite a nice addition to visiting Pontremoli (market day) and having lunch in town.

We visited the recently upgraded Museo and it is a truly wonderful experience now examining these unusual ancient artefacts. The museum has been thoughtfully designed considering its' location and contents. The walk up through the 'Centro Storico' is wonderful. There is lift access also now available. The views from the Castello are wonderful. Information is additionally available in both English and Italian. A great souvenir shop too.

This museum of primitive stone statues going back to 2000-4000 BC is an eye-opener, well presented in the well-preserved castle with beautiful views. The videos, most available through Bluetooth headphones, provide information on early man and his culture, as well as the story of how the statues were discovered. The new elevator access is a big improvement for those of us not able to walk up through the town. Well worth a visit.

What a great little museum. The video (available in English) gives context and the statues are well displayed. Entry to the castle is also included in the price and offers wonderful views over the town.

Castle rooms contain many fascinating individually carved stone statues which are dramatically lit. They date from 3000 BC and are unique to this region. Interesting films in English.
Castle has good views from the battlements. Combined entry fee for castle and statue exhibition represents good value.

We rather ambitiously went with a 3 year old and a 5 year old. We only spent 30 minutes in the museum so it was just a quick glance at the statues really. The statues did interest them a little, the 5 year old boy looking at some with spears, both laughing at the lady ones with boobs! Still, we were happy with our half hour intro to the museum. We spent nearly an hour afterwards playing soldiers at the top of the castle, talking about castle defences, types of weapons in the olden days and of course firing imaginary arrows from the windows onto "baddies" below.

Mi spiace ma non lo so....trattandosi di un museo temo di no, però non ho la certezza.
