The Castle is an administration building for a college and there is nothing to it. The outside looks cool That's all. However, the gardens are beautiful and worth a stroll around.

It was a bit difficult to find. The GPS took us to the Royalroads University and little we new the castle is in the university grounds. We found it ny chance driving to a public parking within the grounds, close to the water. Once we found it it was lovely to walk and explore such beautiful and peaceful gardens. The... More

While driving to Sooke for dinner reservations, we were looking for a stop along the way. Our hotel had recommended a stop at Hatley Castle - we were game knowing nothing about what we'd see. The GPS didn't quite get us to the Castle but after a bit of driving around we found it. As has been noted in a... More

We were lucky that school was out the day we went to visit Hatley Castle, so we got a full tour of the first floor. It would be somewhat less impressive if the two "classrooms" were in use and off limits as happens on some occasions. Our guide Geli knew her stuff and entertained us with stories of the Dunsmuir... We arrived on a day that Royal Roads University classes in session prevented visitors from touring the castle interior. However, we wandered into the ground floor and looked around ourselves. We also visited the museum in the basement and the gardens. If the Royal BC Museum in Victoria scores a 10, then the Hatley Castle Museum is somewhere around a... More

Lovely grounds, excellent example of 19th centurY castle built by coal baron. Mature gardens in the classic English garden style. Good cafeteria for a snack. Pets welcome but must be leashed. Oceanside location

As all the reviews say, you either can't enter the building because it's in use, or the tour is short and meaningless. We still came anyways - we had to see the X-Mansion after all - and while I'm glad we went to walk around, it's a good thing I was warned ahead of time. Sure enough, the building was... More

Home is beautiful, and the guide was excellent - very knowledgeable. But tour was quite short, no upper floors, and wedding closed off 1 or 2 rooms we would have otherwise seen and closed a portion of the gardens. We did get to look at the gardens eventually. The area around the house in very nice. Gardens farther from the... More

The home of very wealthy Canadians during the early 1900's, now the 800+ acre site is a combination of Park, College, and Tourist destination. We used the public bus system to go to Hatley Castle from downtown Victoria. From downtown and back it could not have been much easier, Bus 50 with a transfer to Bus 52. Bus drivers were... More

The Hatley Castle is a awe inspiring location. We paid 18.50 per person for the tour and garden access. It is well worth the cost! Our tour guide, Geli, was very knowledgeable about the manor and gardens. Make sure to breathe deep in the castle and gardens. The smells are invigorating. I would recommend this gem to everyone. For the... More
