...although crowded sometimes with surfers from all over Europe. Car park fills by noon in August. Be careful of the rips - a 27 yo died there recently as his group of 6 people got swept away.

A stunning beach on the western coast of algarve with an incredible natural landscape, with super clean sand. A beach that surfers can not miss.

Really worth the drive. Spectacular beach, particularly with the sea roaring in and watching the surfers. Good for children. The cafe has a good view of the beach and varied menu. Octopus salad and wine good. Mostly families from Germany.

Spectacular cliffs and good surf. Gets very crowded in August so get there early. Some good surf spots. Lifeguarded as well.

We drive here just after 1pm on a weekday, this beach is around 5kms from Vila do Bispo. The road down is very twisty and in places there is little room for 2 cars to pass, so nit fur nervous drivers. There is one busy car park and other visitors park on the road sides meaning it will get packed at peak times and turning at the bottom may be difficult. There is a restaurant right by the beach, ample sun loungers and a number of rustic thatched sun umbrellas at the back of the beach. If you can bring your own sun umbrella or sun shade as the ones provided are in high demand. This beach is more interesting than most with its rock formations and the Atlantic tides give plenty of action for swimmers and surfers. There is a lifeguard on duty. We left here around 5pm for something to eat and retuned again just before 8pm in time for the sunset, by this time there were around 12 families on the beach compared to the hundreds of earlier and there were plenty of dog walkers enjoying all the wide open space. The kids had great fun messing by the water while we captured their silhouettes in the setting sun. We have visited this part of Portugal twice now and this is be far our favourite and most interesting beach.
